Tea Baggers joining us (5.00 / 1)
http://www.statesman.com/blogs...

Now visualize our rally 10 times larger. Ok, let's make it happen!

This is the closest we've come in 60 years for meaningful reform; Our moment really is now!

47 million Americans are still waiting for coverage. 5.5 million Texans, including 1.5 million kids are still waiting. Many others are underinsured, have terrible deductibles, or get denied coverage for pre-existing conditions. Tea baggers, get real! Everyone knows we need health insurance reform now.

Showdown? (0.00 / 0)
I look forward to the Tea Baggers coming out to play. It's our chance to show them where Austin really stands on this critical issue.

Looking forward to a friendly discussion (5.00 / 1)
It's great that the teabaggers are willing to engage on the important public policy issues of the day. That's what democracy is all about. We welcome them to our health care reform rally, and they have every right to stand on the public sidewalks outside the AFL-CIO building and counter-protest in favor of the status quo.

Unfortunately for them, it seems Texas voters favor investing in education, health care and clean energy. The recent Texas Lyceum poll asked an interesting question about the Republican line of attack that Obama is "spending too much". Apparently, the public still supports Obama's agenda, even if adds temporary deficits. Also, the Republican-proposed tax cuts are clearly not the top priority of voters.

Most (74%) favor more spending on energy technology, to make health care
more affordable and accessible (67%), and to improve education systems (79%).

Texas Lyceum Poll - Public Support for Types of Spending Even if Deficit Rises

Poll taken June 5-12, 2009

Regular families are hurting, and the Democrats are doing something about it. We want action on education, health care and clean energy...not more misguided tax cuts that don't work.

2010 is going to be a rough year for the Republicans if they stand in the way of common sense legislation. The time for health care reform has come. Hope to see everyone at tomorrow's rally, and remember to be civil to our teabag neighbors.

"remember to be civil to our teabag neighbors.", wait a minute, civil?, referring to these protesters as teabaggers is probably the furthest from civil you can get.

Time for change (5.00 / 2)
Given that the health insurance companies have denied my father health care makes this issue pretty personal for me. These giant corporations have put profit over people, and it's wrong.  They're making life awful for regular working families, and it's inexcusable that Texas is #1 in uninsured citizens.

There's a lot of things I'd like to call the Republicans who stand in the way of health care reform, but I'm trying to be as civil as I can.

How dare Ian call people by the name (5.00 / 2)
that they themselves chose?

Wear blue, an Obama shirt, or bring stickers (5.00 / 1)

All,

Feel free to wear blue, wear an Obama shirt, and bring Health Care/Obama stickers.  Remember to smile :)  The #'s are on our side.

It's going to be a lot of fun today!

Best,
David
