Texas Round-Up

  • We're hearing word that former Congressional candidate John Courage is going to run against Jeff Wentworth for the state senate in SD-25 which spans I-35 from Austin to San Antonio.

  • The City of Irving will have to create single member city council districts by order of a federal judge as their all at large system has been found to violate the Voting Rights Acts for minority representation.

  • There is an East Texas Democratic Summit next month out in Tyler. Good to see- RSVP on Facebook if you want to go.

  • Man, PinkDome needs to write more. I miss this humor.

  • I also like this ad.

  • Texas applies for SUPERTRAIN funds. Woot! And speaking of alternative transportation (are trains alternative again?), here's a video of how you should lock your bicycle if you have one.

  • Is the recession hurting tips? Looks like yes in Austin.

  • Check out these sweet maps showing affordable housing densities in Austin.

  • Jason Steed joins the writing team at Eye on Williamson.

  • AIDS Services of Austin announced that they are the recipient of a five-year, $1.6 million grant.  The funds are being used to create Project Fresh Start, which will provide substance abuse and HIV prevention services to African American men and women in Travis County who have been released from prison or jail within the past two years. More info here.

  • A condo development off Enfield in Austin, which has been stalled for 2 years, appears to be moving once again. The caveat is that with the new owner, they very well may just tear everything down they started and build a differently designed complex that's worse.

Courage vs Wentworth (0.00 / 0)
I'm honored to have been present at John Courage's very first campaign event after filing to run against Jeff Wentworth, held at the Dem's Café monthly meeting in Cibolo. He came out swinging with a list of issues including campaign finance reform and education among others. John knows what he's talking about and makes that clear to everyone he speaks to. Many of us signed his primary petition last night and I have no doubt we'll all be actively working to get him elected.

As long as corporations are people and money is speech, then democracy is a farce.

Great news (0.00 / 0)
It's great to hear that John Courage is in the race.
