With the health care fight heating up in the Senate, local citizens of Kerr County will travel by bus to join citizens from Guadalupe, Comal, and Bexar Counties and hold a rally in front of Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison's office at 11:30 on July 9, 2009 with a follow on delivery to Senator John Cornyn to deliver petitions asking the Senators to support President Obama's health care plan, including a strong public health insurance option. President Obama has been steadfast in his support for a public health insurance option, which will give Americans a better range of choices, make the health care market more competitive, and keep insurance companies honest.

Last week, the Senate HELP Committee joined several committees in the House of Representatives and released a bill including a public health insurance option.

At the rally, stories from residents struggling with their own health care will be read to demonstrate why a robust public health insurance plan is critical to solve the health care crisis in Texas. At the end of the rally, the group will deliver petitions from MoveOn members statewide asking Senators Hutchison and Cornyn to support a strong public health insurance option. The petition text - a quote from President Obama - reads:

"I strongly believe that Americans should have the choice of a public health insurance option operating alongside private plans. This will give them a better range of choices, make the health care market more competitive, and keep insurance companies honest."
