TX-10: Republican Mike McCaul Named A Top Target for DCCC in 2010

by: Phillip Martin

Tue Jun 16, 2009 at 02:18 PM CDT

(H/t to Swing State Project for finding the story first -- "DCCC, NRCC Tip Their Hands").

The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, in a piece for  National Journal's CongressDaily, listed the TX-10 Congressional District as one of the best opportunities for Democrats to pick-up a seat in Congress in 2010.

This should come as little surprise to anyone that has been following the race -- which we've been doing closely here at BOR. A quick scan through the TX-10 tagged posts here at BOR gives you a recap of what's going on in the district:

Any and all national recognition is good news. We'll continue updating you on the race as news develops.

For the record (0.00 / 0)
People have been following & targeting CD10 long before March 31st of this year.  Candidates like Lorenzo Sadun, Ted Ankrum Dan Grant and Larry Joe Doherty all helped move the ball forward for this district.
You might reach a bit further back in your BOR archives.

Well, yes, of course TX-10 didn't just become important... (0.00 / 0)
Just trying to point out the new stuff in a quick post. But the link to the TX-10 tag clearly goes back to all of the old stuff we've covered on BOR, if others are so inclined to seek more information, including this that I wrote last fall:

Thanks, Rachel, but things really are different (3.00 / 2)
Larry Joe (and Dan) had a lot more going for him than Ted, who had a lot more going for him than I did, but Jack McDonald seems to have financial resources, and DCCC backing, that go well beyond anything we've seen before. It's a whole new game.

The big question is whether this upgrade in resources and effort can make up for demographic changes in Harris County. NW Harris County is Dan Patrick country, and its population is growing quickly.

To win, Jack will have to build up a field operation in Harris, mostly from scratch. (I mean no disrespect to the precinct chairs there, some of whom are fantastic, but most of NW Harris County is unorganized and hostile to Democrats.) The Obama and Clinton campaigns, and especially the caucus sign-ins, provide a lot of data for who is on our side in those precincts, but somebody has to recruit these people, train them, and inspire them to work.

It's a tall order. Let's help Jack do it.

What are McDonalds views on the Bailouts? (0.00 / 0)
Eventually the issues will come into play.  Is he for Cap & Trade, taking over banks and auto manufacturers, open borders, etc., etc.?  NW Harris County is strong Republican.  Let me restate that: strong Conservative.  Think 2008 was the best chance for a D in Dist. 10, with O's coattails.  Think the coattails are now being stepped on by every special interest and political capital is headed in the opposite direction of the national debt.  Would actually like to thank the President for reminding Conservatives why you need to get involved.  No one can unite Conservatives like a Socialist.

started out so interesting, then got off track so quickly.

Alas.

no kidding (0.00 / 0)
That and '10 probably made NW Harris county worse for a Democrat in all honesty.

"It's the economy, stupid" (0.00 / 0)
If the economy recovers, Democrats will get the credit (rightly or wrongly), comments like sdhook's will only remind people of how much the Republicans stood in the way of recovery efforts, and Jack will do well. If the economy stays bad, Democrats will get the blame (rightly or wrongly), folks like sdhook will say "I told you so", a lot of people will listen, and Jack will get creamed.

I'm betting on the first scenario, sdhook is betting on the second, and only time will tell.

For McCaul, Rush Limbaugh is just a part of the family.
