The Purified Republican Party

by: Libby Shaw

Wed Apr 29, 2009 at 10:02 AM CDT

As we know Senator Arlen Specter changed his Party affiliation yesterday from Republican to Democrat.  In his remarks the Senator had said the Republican Party had been recently "purified" by the right.  Needless to say Specter's switch delivered a devastating blow to an already wounded GOP.

Michael Steele is not happy.

Michael Steele said Specter thumbed his nose at Cornyn.  Steele warns:

Get Ready to go to the Mat Baby. We're going after YA and we're taking Ya out.

Specter gets reality. Cornyn doesn't.

The latest Washington Post-ABC News poll shows the depth of the party's problems. Just 21 percent of those surveyed identified themselves as Republicans. That's the lowest since the fall of 1983, when just 19 percent identified themselves as Republicans. Party identification does fluctuate with events. But as a snapshot indicator, the latest figures highlight the impact of Obama's opening months on the Republican Party. From a high-water mark of 35 percent in the fall of 2003, Republicans have slid steadily to their present state of affairs. It's just not as cool to be a Republican as it once was.

John Cornyn and Karl Rove weigh in.

The current state of a purified GOP.

Meanwhile, back here in Texas, there are few problems with purified spin, especially from Perry the Secessionist.

Sarah Palin is taking most of the stimulus money, too, despite her earlier grandstanding about refusing it.

In other words.

Moderates want out of the looney bin.  They're packing their bags.

It's so much cooler and far more sane to be a Democrat.

And fun.
