Video from Lee Leffingwell Office Opening, New Endorsements

by: Karl-Thomas Musselman

Fri Feb 13, 2009 at 08:46 PM CST

The other week, we posted a clip from Brester McCracken's office opening. (See it here if you missed it). The Leffingwell Team has spliced together a little youtube piece as well which you can watch below.

Also of note on the Leffingwell Blog, former Land Commissioner Garry Mauro has endorsed Lee as well as Travis County Commissioner (Pct 2) Sarah Eckhardt who represents large chunks of central and northwest Austin which turn out in higher rates in municipal elections than other parts of town.

Constable Richard McCain Endorses Leffingwell (0.00 / 0)
Travis County Constable Richard McCain represents Southwest and South Central Austin. He and I both showed up to Lee's campaign office opening. I brought my check book, as promised, in another post.

Wonder where Brewster's regional base is, if any? Certainly not in South, East or Central Austin. High or low voter turnout, "Green Energy" McCracken loses unless he goes negative and has a silver political bullet we don't know about.

I disagree (0.00 / 0)
Brewster's coalition is far bigger than just the Green Energy folks. Those involved in digital media and film-making are solidly in his camp, and they have numbers that I think will take the old school by surprise. One of the things I noticed about Brewster's campaign opening was how many people I noticed who I had previously seen at AMODA showcases, who I had never before seen at a political event.

One tiny manifestation of the support of the digital media sector: Brewster's video is of far higher quality than Lee's.

Contested Elections (0.00 / 0)
The great thing about having contested elections is that ideals and public policy gets discussed and debated. One way or the other, in the Mayor's race at least, we will find out which coalition of interests has more sway with the voters.

[ Parent ]
Indeed (0.00 / 0)
And I think the important thing to consider is that Brewster's "coalition of interests" represent those people who want to bring Austin's economy into the 21st Century, whereas Lee's "coalition of interests" represents those people who want. . . well, nobody seems to really know. They just repeat phrases like "steady hand" and never offer any specific policy proposals.

[ Parent ]
Over Generalized (3.00 / 1)
Brewster does not have the digital media or social media folks all locked up.  As a Lee supporter and a person who runs around in that crowd, that's just not true.  As for the film makers, all I can think is Villa Muse.

Splitting the Central City (0.00 / 0)
Brewster and Lee split the Central City vote, particularly north of the river.  Prop 2 last November showed that the Central City vote can be split.

For the mayoral election, the question will be who can build coalitions among interest groups, not geographic areas.

Leffingwell video far superior (0.00 / 0)
You must be kidding about McCracken's video being of "far higher quality." It has no one talking except McCracken and there's no drama to it whatsoever. Lee's video is far superior and it also looks like far more, and far more diverse, people were at his opening.

What a great kick off. (0.00 / 0)
I want to thank everyone who was able to make it out for our kick off event. It was great to have so many supporters in the building, filling up on BBQ, drinks and good times. With so much support coming into the office, I feel we are in great shape going forward. I love the video - it really captures the spirit of the event well.

I am proud of the endorsements that Lee has earned so far. With the support of these great community leaders, Lee is in a good place to earn the trust of Austin voters.

I would also like to thank the Austin Firefighter and Police Associations as well as the Central Labor Council for their strong votes of confidence - we really appreciate it!

Thanks to all the volunteers who have continued to support our efforts - together we can get this done on May 9th. If you have not had the chance to come on into the office, please join The Lee Team at 700 N. Lamar, across from Book People.

See y'all real soon!
