City Hall Hustle: Carole Keeton Rylander McClellan Strayhorn for Mayor

by: Matt Glazer

Tue Jan 13, 2009 at 08:30 AM CST

The Austin Chronicle was on hand for Carole Strayhorn's announcement yesterday. Strayhorn was short on details and facts, but big on grandstanding. Take a look for yourself.

(Wells Dunbar has made it clear he will be the go to source for City Council coverage.  That's just good for Austin)

It's Keeton McCellan Rylander Strayhorn.  Her multiple names are helpfully in alphabetical order!

Carol Keeton Rylander Strayhorn grandstanding? (0.00 / 0)
Who would have thought.

I still remember her commercial saying "I want to pay for 2 full years of college for every student, and I know how to pay for it".

Also remembered that she stated as comptroller we had a $5Billion deficit just before the election. Then after the election she slightly modified it to $10Billion. oops.

"A Secret Plan" (0.00 / 0)
This was a long time ago, but I remember Bill Clements running for Governor telling people that he had "a secret plan" to fix the budget shortfalls. He won. No secret plan ever emerged. (His campaign consultant? Karl Rove.)

CKMRS sounds the same way...

Did anyone else notice the 48-hours of coverage she got? Local TV stations, is she that popular/interesting, or is it like a car wreck--you can't help but look?

Carol etc. (3.00 / 1)
Isn't it nice to see a fresh new face on the scene!

off her game (0.00 / 0)
I've never seen Strayhorn so off her game. Reading from notes for that speech? And then pretty nervous in her initial responses in front of the camera. Weird. Usually, she can rattle off stump speeches like they were nursery rhymes.
