John Cornyn Wants to Filibuster Seating of Al Franken in Senate

by: Karl-Thomas Musselman

Lame.

Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas) threatened Friday to filibuster any attempt to seat Democratic Minnesota Senate candidate Al Franken next week.

The newly minted National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) chairman said he had not whipped votes in the GOP caucus, but added that he could not imagine any members defecting and seating Franken without a certificate of election.

Franken will not have that certificate as long as the election is challenged in the courts - a likely scenario, with Sen. Norm Coleman's (R-Minn.) legal team already attacking the credibility of the recount process.

"This is a very, very serious matter," Cornyn said. "I can assure you that there will be no way that people on our side of the aisle will agree to seat any senator without a valid certificate."

Of course, Norm Coleman could drop his legal challenges and there would be a certificate of election. But that would just burst poor Johnny Boy's bubble of bluster.

They played the "Big John" video earlier on CNN when talking about this story.

Poor John (3.67 / 3)
He just doesn't get it.  Paul Krugman was not kidding when he said the Republican Party has become nothing but a bunch of whiners.

Where was John on December 1st? (0.00 / 0)
You know, the position of the Republicans would be much more credible if they had made this statement on December 1st when their candidate was ahead in the count.  Waiting until your candidate trails and then refusing to sit the apparent winner until the last dog dies does not sound very much like believing in democracy.

Hey (0.00 / 0)
He's Big Bad John. He doesn't need to be "credible." ;)

Cornyn: No one's happy with the way things are being done in Washington - not Republicans, not Democrats, not me. There's too much petty squabbling while major problems aren't getting fixed. Shortsighted, is what I'd call it. This nonsense should stop.
The stopping of the shortsighted petty squabbling nonsense didn't even make it to inauguration.

Sen. Corny is stacking up as the perfect parody of a United States Senator, a new version of Senator Foghorn, a windbag. I would be highly entertaining to see him debate Franken!

Christ what an asshole (0.00 / 0)
To think we had an opportunity to elect one decent Senator in Washington.  Just one.

Instead we're going to get six more years of this obstructionist BS.
