Obama and Noriega up by Seven Points in Harris County

( - promoted by Matt Glazer)

Today's  Houston Chronicle reports that Rick Noriega and Barack Obama are up by seven percent in Harris County.  For the first time in forty-four years, Harris County voters are on the verge of favoring a Democratic Presidential candidate.

WOW.

Hats off to the Noriega campaign and the Harris County Democrats for their exhaustive efforts.

They gave Barack Obama the edge over Republican John McCain by 7 percentage points this week, with very few undecided or backing another contender.

Voters also favored Democrat Rick Noriega of Houston against Republican Sen. John Cornyn by the same amount - with 13 percent undecided or committed to another candidate.

The survey results were compiled by Zogby International as early voting got under way for the Nov. 4 election.

The Chronicle also discloses the findings of statewide and other polls in Texas.

All independent published polls of Texas voters overall show McCain, the Arizona senator, leading Obama, the Illinois senator, by solid margins. The candidates have focused their campaign efforts on other states on the assumption that McCain will capture Texas' electoral votes.

Likewise, Cornyn has maintained a significant lead over Noriega in statewide surveys. Noriega is probably best known in Texas in his home county, where he is completing a term as a state legislator.

The article discusses Houston/Harris County's diversity and it's younger voters.

Harris County, with the state's largest population, is one of the most ethnically and socially diverse counties in Texas, and the strong growth of its Hispanic population has helped make its voters more receptive to Democratic candidates, according to experts. They said black and Hispanic voters, who generally favor the Democratic Party, will cast about 40 percent of county votes for the Nov. 4 election.

Also, Houston's population is relatively young on a national scale, and the campaign nationwide is attracting many young and first-time voters, especially to the Obama campaign, according to a variety of analysts.

I am sure the Texas GOP will trash Zogby but, fact of the matter is, we won't know until it's over on November 5th. I don't know about you, but I am feeling mighty optimistic right now.

Meanwhile, back at the ranch:

Woohoo!! (3.00 / 2)
And the turnout for the largest urban counties in Texas is looking good too.

Houston Chronicle 10/25/08
Activists spend weekend getting out the vote in Texas
(snip)
More than 1.1 million Texans cast ballots in the 15 most populous counties through Thursday, compared with 655,265 in the top 15 counties four years ago, according to figures released by the Secretary of State's Office on Friday.

The blue tide is coming in!

There's a Hell to Pay Fund Raiser for Rick on DK (3.00 / 2)

Leave it all on the road.... (3.00 / 1)
I'm pretty broke but I thought, I would gladly give $25.00 of good drinking cash to NOT HAVE CORNYN AS MY SENATOR!!!!

So I did.

Anyone know the final totals on how much (0.00 / 0)
was raised for Rick last night?

Pollsters now Predict Record AA and Hisp Turnout Could Remake the South!! (5.00 / 3)

NBC's Chuck Todd was saying that AA turnout could reach 90-95%. With near 100% of AAs voting for Barack and a STRAIGHT Democratic ticket, devasting downballet races for Repubs. That, and 75% + of Hispanics now voting Dem, along with 65% of young voters under 35, along with the traditional, urban Dem base, could help produce the mega-juggernaut we are seeing.

In my very, large extended AA family, EVERYBODY has voted or will vote for Barack and STRAIGHT Dem ticket all down the line.

Let's hope everybody voting make Texas turn blue!!

Bill and the HCDP folks have done a great job. (5.00 / 2)
Houston is a sprawling city that is very hard to organize, but the good folks with the Harris County Democratic Party have done an amazing job keeping their effort going, even through a hurricane.

They have block walking and other community outreach happening across the county, so if you got a moment, stop in and help turn Harris county blue.

Not to mention they have a great website - http://www.hcdp08.org/

But the e-machines "favor" the Republicans... (1.00 / 1)
There is growing indication all around the country that the e-machines are "malfunctioning" and doing so in favor of Republicans. Particularly when the voter has voted a straight Democratic ballot. Which registers as a straight Republican ballot. And for some reason Burnt Orange Report seems to be oblivious to it along with everyone else.

Maybe when the results come in November 4th you all will wake up. Too late.

Anyone who has not voted yet should not vote a straight ticket ballot. And they should make absolutely sure the e-machine has correctly registered all Democrats on the ballot.

I voted a straight D ticket in Houston (0.00 / 0)
and all went OK.  There's a summary last page to review before pressing the "cast ballot" button.  Everyone should be super mindful, though, b/c votes are being flipped.

Check out the diary written by JRBehrman on Texas Kaos.  He does a great job at explaining this issue.

I am worried about Bush's interference with Ohio's voters - he asked the AG to investigate whether or not 200,000 newly registered voters are legitimate.  Also the Secretary of State in Colorado purged 20,000 names from the voting rolls. This kind of evil stuff in concert with flipped votes is how elections are stolen.

The R's can't win unless they steal.  It is that obvious.

The UFO's (0.00 / 0)
and black helicopters are all landing Nov. 4, and voting R.

[ Parent ]
sucks for them, they missed the registration deadline (0.00 / 0)
It will be hard for them to vote R because Republicans don't want same day voter registration, and they don't want aliens voting.  If they were registered already they probably got purged from the rolls for spending too much time flying around and not enough time answering mail.
