TX-10: Larry Joe Doherty Releases New Ad

by: Matt Glazer

Mon Oct 20, 2008 at 11:40 AM CDT

Newly minted "red to blue" candidate Larry Joe Doherty has released his new ad for the final days of the election.  It's a hard hitting piece that focuses almost entirely on the economy.

Lee Nichols at the Austin Chronicle appears to be entertained and stunned to see ads for the 10th Congressional District.

This is a major development - to my knowledge (and I've been covering the modern District 10 ever since Tom DeLay personally drew it up in 2003) there have never been general election television buys. This is because there has never been a Democrat in CD 10 capable of buying one, and thus McCaul has never needed to buy one, either.

What a difference a few years makes.

Financial Might (0.00 / 0)
I think this district is a great example of where the R's are losing their former financial advantage over Dems. The tide really seems to be turning on the tendency for Republicans to out-raise the Dems. Much to Delay's surprise political opinion doesn't sit rigidly the way lines on a political map do.

Didn't Ted Ankrum have TV ads? (0.00 / 0)
They were in niche cable markets, but I'm pretty sure they existed.

Don't think Wall Street kicked in 500K (0.00 / 0)
but if they did they are WAY short of what lawyers have given Larry Joe.

Wrong on both counts (0.00 / 0)
sdhook: According to opensecrets.org (which pulls their numbers directly from the FEC), McCaul has received $548,970 from the Finance/Insurance/Real Estate sector over his political career.

Doherty has received $507,565 from lawyers. Which would be slightly less.

Lee Nichols

Too weird to be a Texan, too Texan to live anywhere else.
