| As FEC filings for Congressional races poured in yesterday, there was some noticeable news from the race for TX-10. Democratic nominee Larry Joe Doherty, who has out raised Republican incumbent Mike McCaul 2 of the previous 3 quarters, continued his streak of grassroots fundraising.
Doherty's supporters contributed $213,795.32 to his campaign this quarter - including pushing him over the $1 million mark for the campaign cycle.
On first glance, it appears Republican McCaul finally took advantage of being a two-term incumbent to out raise Doherty by raising $283,000. But upon further review, we noticed that for the second time in as many quarter's McCaul made a personal contribution to his own campaign of $60,000 - meaning McCaul just edged Doherty in what is shaping up to be a pivotal Congressional race on the state and national stage.
Another curious piece to the McCaul puzzle: he made the contribution on the last day of the filing period and the same day Doherty announced his campaign surpassed the $1 million mark.
Bottom Line: This is a district the Republicans created to be a safe seat for years to come. However, the tide has turned and Larry Joe offers the voters a voice in DC unlike Congressman ClearChannel. McCaul is running scared and trying to buy his way to reelection and we cannot let that happen. |
