I watched the debate (3.00 / 1)
... and was impressed with Rick Noriega's poise, confidence and mastery of the issues.  But, IMHO, he needed to be more aggressive and confront Cornyn's duplicity.  A few times during the debate, I was screaming at Cornyn's image, "How can you say you support kids' health insurance when you ..." and so on.  Those kinds of words should have been coming out of Noriega's mouth.

I hope voters were paying attention to the inherent contradictions in so many of Cornyn's statements.

DeeceX: making Texas safe for democracy

I saw (0.00 / 0)
two extremely different Texas politicians in that debate tonight.

One who had passion and one who didn't. One who seemed surprised that someone would question his record. One who wanted to really debate the issues.

The format was terrible. I didn't care for Shelley Kofler's moderating. She came across as mean and rude. Where was Bob Ray Sanders? He is the best.

Thank you, Rick Noriega. You represented me honorably, tonight, sir. You were prepared and passionate. Job well done!

Let's be honest... (0.00 / 0)
...it was kind of a tough watch.  Shelley whatever her name is was going to make it HER night and was just awful...interrupting, trying so hard to get answers to her stupid questions like "is there anything you don't know?" "Well no Shelley, I'm an expert on every effing thing known to man and never seek help from anyone." STUPID! I wish Rick had been more agressive. Cornyn is clearly vulnerable but the punches weren't landing.

More aggressive? (0.00 / 0)
With the setup what it was and Shelley Koffler cutting him off so that she could get the focus back on herself...well, I think it was difficult at best. She rarely asked them for rebuttals. Rick Noriega had to interrupt her just to get tthat opportunity several times. I did note that neither candidate went over to her at the end of the debate.

Can't watch... (0.00 / 0)
I couldn't make it beyond five minutes of the final Obama-McCain debate and I couldn't even fathom making it beyond five seconds of the Noriega-Cornyn debate.

There is something about McCain and Cornyn when they speak. This odd tone behind the attempt at an even odder "soft-spokenness" that McCain cannot pull off for more than five minutes and that in both cases is hiding a seething anger.  And obvious lies.

The latest Cornyn ad with the wind farm just infuriates me. As if he has ever supported anything that would endanger the profit of the oil and gas industry.

Hope springs eternal. And then there's voodoo. Looking for the hex that causes Republicans to confuse (R) with (D) and believe that (D) is (R).  Why the hell not as Molly would say - banging the pots and pans doesn't seem to work.

My liveblogging, grades, and take on debate questions (0.00 / 0)
My liveblogging and debate grades are here. I think Noriega did better than in the first debate; that said, I think somebody should back-door some money to Schick, too, to cut into Cornyn from the right.

As for debate panels, yes, I thought the first one was better; did not think Shelly Kofler was that bad, though. (I do think Paul Burka is either fading away or else kind of phoned it in.)

The Houston moderator did an excellent job at debate pacing, especially with a three-person debate last week.
