30-Day Out Campaign Finance Report:

HD-32: Garcia vs. Hunter
Contributions Expenditures Cash on Hand
Democrat Juan Garcia
$353,837.81 $554,360.90 $288,943.99
Republican Todd Hunter
$186,602.24 $172,542.03 $188,537.15
Garcia's Advantage $167,235.57 $381,818.87 $100,406.84

Democrat Juan Garcia and Republican Todd Hunter are waging what is going to be the most expensive State Representative race this cycle. Republicans know that, without knocking off Garcia, they are in trouble. Garcia, however, is running an excellent campaign on the issues -- and exposing Hunter for the opportunist that he is.

It would take to long to re-write, so first, go read this diary:

Todd Hunter's Worst Week Ever

Then, I'd recommend watching Garcia's two television ads:

In 2006, Garcia proved that he can run an excellent campaign.
In 2007, Garcia proved that he is an honest, hard-working leader in the Texas House.

In 2008, Garcia will prove again that he's an excellent campaigner, and ultimately the people of House District 32 will be all the better off for having Rep. Garcia fight for re-election.

Here are some other links that previous coverage of the race on Burnt Orange Report:

Help Todd Hunter's failing campaign choose a new theme (0.00 / 0)
Todd Hunter is running a Perry-Craddick-TLR financed campaign that is 100% negative.

This fact has not gone unnoticed, and it was expressly discussed in the Corpus Christi Caller Times today:

I saw a political ad on Channel 3 that was very sad. The Nueces County Republicans can find nothing positive to say about their candidates for the state house so they concoct buckets of slime to throw on two honest men who have represented us ably. Now I know why they brought Karl Rove to town. They needed his recipe for smear.

Having heard their candidates, who have nothing to offer, I can understand the situation.

But it is pitiful.

In the comment section over at SouthTexasChisme, there seems to be a contest to choose a new "positive" campaign theme for crypto-Republican Todd Hunter:

"Vote for Todd Hunter because we need more windstorm insurance industry lobbyists in the legislature"

"Vote for Todd Hunter -- at least he used to be a Democrat"

"Vote for Todd Hunter so he can support Tom Craddick as Speaker of the House and send Corpus Christi's tax dollars to Midland and Odessa"

"Vote for Todd Hunter or there will be another incident and the Country Club pool"

Feel free to suggest your own proposed new crypto-Republican campaign slogans.
