It is 6:00am, and OU still sucks

I think UT is going to pull this one off, but I think it's going to be a close, high-scoring game that comes down to big fourth quarter plays. Other random predictions:

  • UT will be down early in the first quarter.
  • We will have at least two major special-teams plays.
  • The defense will score a touchdown.

Consider this your game-day open thread.

Halftime Update: Texas 20, Oklahoma 21. Let's look at my predictions:

  • UT will be down early in the first quarter: They've still never led, but they get the ball to start the half.
  • We will have at least two major special-teams plays. Already got one, with Shipley's awesome kickoff return for a TD.
  • The defense will score a touchdown. Not yet, but a big interception at the end of the half set up a field goal to bring us within one point.

Texas made some conservative play calling at the end of the half, electing to line up a field goal rather than go for a TD. That's both smart, and frustrating. We'll see if their defense can get a few sacks on Bradford in the second half, and if McCoy can keep up his excellent air attack.

If the Horns stop running laterally, I think the offense will be there. On defense, they are honestly looking good -- OU is just real fast. That's why continued touches on Bradford will make a huge difference.

(By the way, I'm blogging on this b/c I'm watching the game out on a farm in upstate NY.)

It's 6:35 a.m. and OU still sucks! (0.00 / 0)
Up early for a full day of gameday activities. This is a great weekend to take a break from political activities and engage in that good old Texas pastime - FOOTBALL!

The weather is great here in Dallas and ESPN College Gameday will be broadcasting live from the Esplanade in the Fair. It will be a unique broadcast for them since the fans will be balanced between the two teams. Usually they broadcast from a college campus so it's heavily biased to that team. Today they broadcast from a truly neutral site for this game, the midway point between the two campuses.

You gotta love this game and what it has grown into. Until I moved to Texas and became immersed in UT football I had no idea how much this game means. Coming from Arkansas I had to grudgingly put all my red Hog stuff in the drawers and learn to don that color I had been raised to hate. Now I have grown into a full fledged Longhorn fan complete with Longhorn car emblem on the back of the car. I know I'm going to take a ribbing when I drive back to Arkansas this Christmas. Will I have a hard time getting gas? :)

Texas-OU is a such a great game. The split in the stadium is unique (50 yard line). The images are so stark with a sea of burnt orange on one side and a sea of red on the other. The State Fair makes such a great backdrop to the event. Walking around the fair before the game everyone is friendly but spirited. The only struggles before the game are to get through the line for a Fletcher's Corny Dog which can be a feat.

This year the game takes on so much more status as it pits #1 Oklahoma against #5 Texas which will eventually send one of these teams down the Top 25 stack and into memories. It also sets the stage for the Big 12 Championship and probably the run for the BCS National Championship title game.

Okay, enough of this. It's time to get breakfast, don the burnt orange apparel and head to the Fair. To leave you with a parting note, enjoy.

This game also sets the stage for the Big 12 Championship which will most likely come down to the winner and Missouri (possibly). That would most likely lead to the National Championship game as well.

The interesting part about the Big 12 schedule this year is that Texas leaves this game and faces Missouri next weekend. OU bypasses Missouri this year so the Big 12 championship could take some interesting turns. If Texas wins and beats Missouri next weekend Texas could march all the way to the National Championship game. If Texas wins and loses to Missouri Texas could still go to the Big 12 championship game and the winner set up for the National Championship game. If OU wins you could have a 1-2 matchup between OU and Missouri in the Big 12 championship and a march to the National Championship game. If, if, if. A lot of ifs.

The significance of this game is HUGE for the National Championship.

But this is ridiculous.

I have to take the Sooners if the spread is less than a touchdown.

Don't let the Blue Dogs getcha down. Primary them.

Predictions (0.00 / 0)
This explains your political predictions as well, not based on fact just hope. No wonder you keep asking people to give to Noriega, you believe that McCaul and Culberson are in trouble and that even though was just a month to go Brimer and Jackson have a million dollars more in the bank, they are in beat.

Really? (0.00 / 0)
I'm a Longhorn -- of course I'm rooting for UT!

And for the record, last year our final predictions in our Burnt Orange Political Report were dead on. This year, we think the races "lean McCaul" and "lean Culberson" -- so I don't know what you're talking about with your last sentence.

Then again, I'm not sure anyone knows what you are talking about when you say "that even though was just a month to go" or "they are in beat." So, I'll just say that...

IT'S 10:15, AND OU STILL SUCKS!

Now, a very great man once said that some people rob you with a fountain pen.

Does it mean (0.00 / 0)
they are in "heat"?

Hmmm (0.00 / 0)
Not sure I like Greg Davis without a solid running game against Venables. If we can stretch the field on 1st down and give Colt time, we may be able to keep our defense off the field for 30 minutes, but the past is prelude with Davis...

But McCaul? He's right up there with OU in the suck department.
