Welcome to the Burnt Orange Political Report!

Check for our first round of predictions - Tuesday, October 14!

The Burnt Orange Political Report (BOPR) is a report on all the competitive races in the state of Texas -- from the top of the ticket through State House races. There are two fundamental purposes for this report:

  1. Collection of Research & News for the Top Races in Texas

The pages linked below contain important data and information for dozens of contested House races. We know that Google is often the first place many will go to learn more about the race -- but why not start here, where we've collected our best stories over the past few months and will be constantly updating the fast-paced news as it happens throughout the month of October.

  2. Provide Accurate Predictions for the Most Competitive Races in Texas

At least twice a week, we will write a comprehensive post with "predictions" for how the races are likely to end up --- based on news, shared information, fundraising totals, poll numbers, etc. We also hope to generate on-the-ground, user-based feedback so we have a clear picture of what's really happening in the race.

Permanent links to the Burnt Orange Political Report will be placed in a box in the top-right corner in the page, so you can come back and find any information you may need. Here are links to the candidate/race pages we've created:

Federal Races - U.S. Senate & Congressional Races to Watch

State Senate Races

State House Races

We hope this report will be an asset to you over the next month, as a barrage of news stories and races becomes hard to handle. We recommend checking back frequently, to help keep track of the best news and analysis you're going to get on the web.

And, as always, we count on you to tell us what we're missing and what we've messed up. Leave comments on posts and help us make this tool a success for our entire community.

I'll bet I am not the only one who is a little surprised that HD-93 isn't included in this list.

Ernie Casbeer (D) is making serious headway in the 59th.  The recent Ethics Commission complaint against Sid Miller (R) was picked up by AP and published in 91 media outlets.  It is making a difference on the ground here.  Folks are figuring this one out.  I know it is still uphill in the next three weeks but this race deserves a look from everyone.  It is an inexpensive market and could be a major pickup for the Dems.  IMHO it ought to be on the "Lean Republican" list.

Good to note (0.00 / 0)
I think I may also bump the Larry Hunter race into "Lean Republican" on Friday, when I do my next round of predictions.

Now, a very great man once said that some people rob you with a fountain pen.

This race is going blue ya'll! Been at this over 27 years. Only time I've seen it happen like this was with Chet--support from all sides. Been door to door, phoning & fundraising for Sam and the red support is unbelieveable. His opponent has some serious character issues and this one horse district knows them all. As a red insider told me..... Tyroch handed the race to Sam so it's his to lose. Sam's in excellent position to head to Austin!

How about Kevin Murphy in the 29th? (0.00 / 0)
Kevin Murphy's doing a great job there.  (http://www.murphyfortexas.com/)  If we are serious about turning Texas blue, we need to support more of our candidates like Kevin!
