Rick Perry Tries to Relate to Hurricane Victims

by: Matt Glazer

Sat Sep 20, 2008 at 01:09 PM CDT

Rick Perry actually told reporters that he could relate to hurricane Ike victims.

"I absolutely understand they want to get back to their homes ... I'd like to get back to the mansion," said Perry

Guess he forgot about the 4,602-square-foot house equipped with a swimming pool located 8113 Hickory Creek Drive. This is the exact same as living in a shelter with hundred of other people. It's sort of similar.  Taxpayers are spending nearly $10,000 a month to house the Governor in his plush digs, while Red Cross is supporting most of the evacuees.

The rest of the story (0.00 / 0)
You know, I've always wondered who is benefiting from the state of Texas while Rick and family enjoy luxury in their digs. Who is Texas paying rent to for this little excursion?

For all it's worth, Mike and Janet Huckabee opted for a triple-wide trailer while the Arkansas governor's mansion was being renovated. Yes, only in Arkansas where trailer parks are the norm. Hey, I have to have some fun with my state of origin. :)

To be fair, there is a little more room on the grounds of the Arkansas governor's mansion than in Texas. There is 7 acres to do all sorts of things. Heck, Janet took full advantage and extended the mansion with a ballroom out the back. It did seem to resemble a Family Life Center you see around megachurches though. I guess you can't get those church architectural genes out of you.

Ah, I missed the link in Matt's diary posting. Now I see who we're paying rent to.  Thanks for the posting and quote Matt.

Well at least they know where they belong... (0.00 / 0)
The Perry's apparently don't realize they belong in a triple-wide. With or without a ballroom addition to the governor's mansion.

I think Rick Perry meant to say he can identify with the damage a hurrican causes given the damage he has caused this state which may or may not have woken up the 39% of the Republicans who voted for him. I'm not sure anything will ever really wake them up. They will be standing in soup lines with everyone else blaming the Democrats and wearing a Rick Perry for Governor pin quite proudly.

Poor Guv Perry (0.00 / 0)
I sure would hate to be slumming in some tent pitched on the front lawn of the Governor's Mansion in Austin.  Maybe the heat and fatigue wrought by the inconveniences of tent living is why our governor appeared to have smirked and snarked at Wayne Dolcefino when asked about potentially missing Galveston and Bolivar residents.

Perhaps the guv unveiled his arrogance and contempt for such silly concepts such as truth and accountability.
