Obama, Clinton camps working on hotel roll-call vote

by: RBearSAT

In a story by the Denver Post it appears there is some confusion in Denver on how to conduct the convention's roll call vote.  According to the story a rumored move is to have the vote taken Wednesday morning at the hotels and then have New York make a move to accept those votes.  This would prevent a visible division on the floor of the convention during prime time.

Petitions apparently are being circulated on the floor of the convention tonight to prevent this move. The Obama camp is denying the move but it appears there may be some truth to the rumor. While it would help show unity I think it would further outrage Clinton supporters as more attempts to diminish the division of the primaries.

Maybe our bloggers on the floor of the convention can provide more insight into this situation.

Thanks for the link. Interesting twist. (0.00 / 0)

There were peitions (0.00 / 0)
But they appeared to be from the DNCC and not of any nature to alter the nomination pattern. I think we'll have a better sense of that once Hillary speaks tonight.

Looks like it happened in the hotels (0.00 / 0)
According to the Denver Post this morning the roll call votes were cast in the hotels at the breakfast meetings.
Texas Democratic Party Chairman Boyd Richie told the state delegation during breakfast that they had until noon today to fill out roll-call ballots at their hotel.

Each delegate, he said, needed to bring ID and would have to sign their ballot, which will indicate their presidential preference.

The two campaigns, he said, negotiated a plan to conduct the voting that way.

"The campaigns have determined how this is going to work," Richie said.

After the voting, he said, the ballots would be taken to the convention center to be tallied before the delegates convene tonight.

Apparently there's more confusion about this process that you can read in the article. This has shades of the processes we saw in the SD conventions and in Austin. I had hoped we could just move forward with process without any interesting approaches but it appears mucking with the system seems to be in our blood this year.
