Democracy for American Endorses John McClelland

by: Matt Glazer

Sun Aug 17, 2008 at 06:01 PM CDT

Democracy For America has endorsed John McClelland's campaign in Texas House District 64 to defeat Craddick Republican Myra Crownover

"John McClelland is part of the new type of grassroots leaders who are reshaping politics throughout Texas and Democracy for America is proud to endorse his campaign," said Jim Dean, Chair of DFA.  "Nobody needs to tell John what grassroots, people-powered organizing is about because he's been doing it for years."

McClelland is well known voice here on BOR and around the Texas blogospher.  He is active in the Denton County Democratic Party where he has been involved with Project Farm Team and worked to recruit and train precinct chairs.  He is currently President of the Denton County Stonewall Democrats chapter.

"I am incredibly honored to be endorsed by Democracy for America because DFA was one of the first organizations I felt a connection with after the 2004 elections.  Howard Dean was the first Democrat I voted for in a Democratic Primary," said John McClelland. "Having the support of grassroots Democrats as well as the endorsement of a respected and admired national organization like DFA is crucial to victory in local races. I am very proud and humbled to receive this endorsement."

"John McClelland knows we need to fully fund our public schools to ensure our children are ready to contribute to and compete in the 21st Century economy.  John McClelland is a forward thinker bringing to the table solutions like implementing a truly modern mass transit system for North Texas and across the state," said Arshad Hasan, Executive Director of DFA.  "John McClelland won't wait to solve the health care crisis that is wreaking havoc on the lives of working men and women.  He will work to bring affordable health care to all Texans."

House District 64, has also been in the news recently because of Republican Suzanna Hupp and Tom Craddick working to get the libertarian candidate out of the race.

Thanks and one more from DFA... (0.00 / 0)
Thank you for making the announcement here on BOR. I am honored to have this endorsement. I have to thank grassroots people, like the readers of BOR, for me having received this.

We did pick up another endorsement in Texas from DFA today that maybe not everyone received a press release on. My colleague and Stonewall VP, Dr. Edra Bogle, has also been endorsed by DFA. She is the nominee for State Board of Education District 14. You can visit her website at bogleforquality.com Her race is especially important, as she is running against Gail Lowe.

This is big news to have two candidates from Denton County receiving national endorsements. Thank you again.
