Remember: Vote Today in the Democratic Primary Run-off

by: Burnt Orange Report

Tue Apr 08, 2008 at 07:00 AM CDT

Across the state of Texas today until 7 pm local time, Democratic primary voters (as well as all non-primary voters) can cast a ballot in the Democratic run-off for Railroad Commission.

Burnt Orange Report strongly urges you to vote for Dale Henry for Railroad Commissioner.

In local Austin area races, there are two more runoffs.

Burnt Orange Report has previously endorsed Rosemary Lehmberg for District Attorney.

Burnt Orange Report did not endorse either Janie Serna or Danny Thomas for County Constable Precinct 1.

LOOK UP YOUR TRAVIS COUNTY POLLING PLACE HERE
(many have been combined for the runoff election)

Update: BOR endorsed Eric Roberson in the TX-32 Congressional Run-off.

There is a runoff for sheriff, and I thought a runoff for judge but maybe I was just getting really early information for the Nov. election.

I know nothing about the Sheriffs, but here's a link to poling locations and sample ballots, etc.:

Roberson in CD-32 (0.00 / 0)
In CD-32, I (Eric Roberson) received BOR's endorsement.

Despite 3 other runoff races in Dallas County and a strong GOTV vote effort by scores of Eric's Army volunteers in 7 calling parties and by individuals at their homes, the runoff turnout has been very low at only 1,273 early votes within CD-32 precincts.

Please help me get out the vote by either voting yourself if you live in CD-32 or by telling a friend in CD-32.

We need the best candidate in CD-32 to beat Pete Sessions.  I have been recognized as that candidate by BOR, every Democratic Club in Dallas County to make an endorsement in this race and the Dallas Morning News.

A vote for Eric Roberson in the Runoff, will help me turn CD-32 Blue in the fall.

Thanks,
Eric Roberson
Candidate for the Democratic Nomination in CD-32

Voted early, glad I did (3.00 / 1)
I expected the turnout to drop, but there is still a part of me that is a little sad to see it happen.

Get it done, folks.  We're not quite there yet!

Me too (3.00 / 1)
Voted last Thursday.  Made sure my hubby voted this morning. And he voted for Dale Henry and Rosemary Lehmberg too!

I should just be allowed to vote for him by proxy.  :)

a little late for this question (0.00 / 0)
In my diary over at DK, which I put up really to just alert people to the fact of the election, there is a person who is insistent that Dale Henry used to be a Republican, that he has run as a Republican, etc. My pointing out that Thompson hasn't bothered to vote at all in a decade is making no impression, and I don't know anything about Mr. Henry's voting record.

I'm not asking for mojo or for anyone else to jump in to the discussion, unless you just really want to. But -- has Mr. Henry run as a Republican, and if so, what is the explanation? I remember being very impressed by him at the endorsement meeting - I went looking for him after he spoke, but he had already left. But that is really all I remember, and no one brought up anything about a record an an "R", which, normally us political geeks would have done. So, is the DK poster just a crank, or is there something to this?

I am not an expert (3.00 / 2)
but it is definitely true that Dale Henry was the GOP nominee for RR commissioner just a few years ago.

While I can't speak for him, I expect he got tired of the incompetence of his party and saw the light.

There are party switches that smell of opportunism and then those that seem to be quite genuine. Henry's, I think, is the latter.

Henry is genuine (3.00 / 1)
In the many times met him in person and heard him speak,  I certainly got the feeling he was speaking from his heart.  He woke up and realized his old GOP party had moved way to the right of him.  He's come home to the party that welcomes him.

slight correction (3.00 / 1)
Dale Henry wan't the GOP nominee, he ran in the GOP primary where he thought he had to run to take out the Republican. If he was the nominee, he would otherwise not be on the commission because the nominee was elected.

You are correct (0.00 / 0)
As Travis County District Judge Julie Kocurek's switch was too. She is an excellant judge, the Democrats should be proud to have her.

He was also running in a rural area first (3.00 / 3)
Where you sometimes can't get elected unless you have an R after your name, no matter what you really believe.

I have pointed someone at DK to txSharon's diaries.  If anybody will out an R, it's her.  She embraces Dale Henry with the righteous fire that she has, and that's enough for me.

I've also met Dale, and know the people running his campaign.  Hell, Hank Gilbert is his treasurer.  These people would not support a puppet.

Some people just have a hard time with anybody who has ever voted R in their entire lives.  If we play that way, we'll never be able to bring people to the light.  We have to be more accepting than that.

That's right TXSharon's endorsement in this race is gold (3.00 / 1)
And Hank Gilbert is double gold.

Henry is our man for this race!
