I even contributed to his campaign (not much, but every bit helps). Use the PayPal donation link, or send a contribution by mail to:
Daniel Boone Candidate District 73 1610 FM 484 Canyon Lake, Texas 78133

I'll be rooting for Boone, and if I have a little scratch I'll contribute, but Doug Miller is light years ahead of Macias in terms of education and water issues. He's a typical conservative with regard to immigration and other lightening rod issues, but the most important thing is that he knows the district and can represent their interests, not the interests of Midland.
Increasing local control, decreasing unfunded mandates, supporting strong schools and teachers, protecting the natural resources of the Hill Country and having healthy kids. That's what's important in that district, and the debate between Boone and Miller will be how strongly to support those issues, not whether or not they'll even be addressed like we had with Macias. I think that's fantastic.
I fully expect Miller to be a conservative voice on many of the social issues. But contrary to Macias, a much more sensible vote on practical policy matters.
If I was still registered out there I would still support (and have donated anyways) to Daniel Boone who is a real Democratic candidate who speaks in the language of the district (just read his website). I don't expect him to win the seat, but he's a credible voice and banner carrier for the Democratic party in the GOP heartland and can serve to move the debate forward on issues like water, land use, education, and public services. You're right about one of them being light years ahead, you've just got the wrong guy in front, at least in terms of education.
If I'm not mistaken, Dan Boone holds a PHD in Experimental Psychology.
Cheers.
