Open Thread: Super Bowl Predictions

by: Phillip Martin

Sun Feb 03, 2008 at 02:00 PM CST

Since moving to Boston, I've already seen the Red Sox win a World Series. Are the Patriots next? I think so -- having watched almost all of their games while I'm up here, it's impossible for me to think they'd lose.

Pick: Pats 38, Giants 27

One other note -- in case you're looking for a fun drinking game, my core group of college friends created a game where at the start of every commercial, you try to guess whose commercial it is before you see the official brand name/logo on the screen. Whoever doesn't guess it right has to drink. If no one guesses it right, everyone drinks. With that said, I should add -- don't drink and drive, and be safe out there. Go Pats!

Leave your predictions in the thread below.

Other predictions: Giants kicker will miss at least 3 field goals and Strahan will sack Brady 5 times.

Don't forget the other rule - if the company sticks the logo on the screen and you make the prediction anyway you have to drink.

Good call, Joe (0.00 / 0)
Also, if things get boring, feel free to put the 2006 Rose Bowl on loop, so you can watch Vince Young put the Trojans in their place. In fact, I'm bringing that DVD tonight, just in case we need to see what winning a championship is supposed to look like.

Everyone has been waiting for Eli Manning to choke ... could this be the game?

no choke (0.00 / 0)
I'm pretty sure losing to the Patriots isn't called choking.  :-P

My point was that everyone has been waiting for Eli to have  a letdown -- a repeat of his 4 INT game against Minnesota -- but it hasn't happen.

Eli tends to either play great or absolutely horrible. Today, I think he will actually be somewhere in the middle. But I think he'll have 2 picks that will prove costly.

I won't predict the score, but I think the Patriots will win.  Coming off of a perfect season it's hard to believe otherwise.  Eli Manning deserves a lot of credit for getting the Giants to the Super Bowl, but it he doesn't perform well today the Giants could take a beating, a really bad beating.

42-20, Pats of course.

Phillip, have some celebratory "chowder" for me...just not too much.

Pats 31 Giants 13 (0.00 / 0)
Brady 4 TD's
Welker 2 TD's

Eli - 0 TD's, <225yds
Jacobs - 1 TD, >125 yds
Burress <50 yds

Looks like Joe's the winner ... (0.00 / 0)

Super Bowl Predictions (5.00 / 1)
Things could get worst. All of you could try to predict  Super Tuesday Primary results.

Hahaha (0.00 / 0)
We are going to try and pick them. It's going to be hysterical.

If the same thing happens on Super Tuesday (3.00 / 1)
Gravel just may be our nominee ...
