Glenn Melancon (D for TX 4th) Officially Announces

by: Glenn Melancon

Wed Jan 09, 2008 at 02:40 PM CST

(Glenn is being challenged by VaLinda Hathcox (former candidate for Land Commissioner) in the primary for TX-4.   - promoted by Karl-Thomas Musselman)

Texas families deserve a Congressman who fights for their interests, not for corporate special interests.  Today I’m officially announcing my candidacy for the United States Congress, Texas Fourth District.  I’ll work for Texas families.  I need your support.  Together we can change Washington one incumbent at a time.

You deserve a representative who knows the needs of working families.  I live in Sherman with my wife Jackie and two sons, Chris and Alex.  I’m a history professor, Boy Scout leader and church volunteer.  Unlike like many Washington politicians, I’m not a banker or a lawyer.  I’m running for Congress to fight for the average American.

America is the land of opportunity. Texas families want to create a better future for themselves and their children.  We need a Congressman in Washington who works for us, not for corporate CEOs.

I’ve laid out a detailed plan to strengthen America’s middle class.  It focuses on the needs of average families — affordable healthcare for all Americans; clean, affordable energy; job and retirement security; and American security and respect.   Visit my website to find out more: http://www.MelanconForUSCongress.net

Texas families want Washington to get the job done.  No more distractions.  No more pandering to large donors.  No other Americans could keep their jobs without any record of accomplishments, but Washington politicians do.

Texas families and small businesses are under attack.  Healthcare costs jumped again.  Many people in District 4 have no health insurance. Gas prices remain at record highs and eat away at wages and profits.  Salaries and benefits haven’t kept pace with inflation.  Corporations are importing large numbers of illegal workers from Mexico and Latin America — so? what's the point?

Our founding fathers gave us a wonderful gift—the right to vote. By using it wisely, we can create a brighter future for our children and grandchildren—a future based on justice and prosperity for all Americans.
