Texas Democratic Congressional Members Endorse Noriega

by: Karl-Thomas Musselman

Wed Dec 05, 2007 at 04:00 PM CST

Impressive.

The following U.S. House members endorsed Rep. Noriega in the U.S. Senate race:  Reps. Al Green, Ruben Hinojosa, Silvestre Reyes, Chet Edwards, Sheila Jackson-Lee, Charlie Gonzalez, Nick Lampson, Ciro Rodriguez, Lloyd Doggett, Solomon P. Ortiz, Gene Green, and Eddie Bernice Johnson.

"Rick Noriega is the candidate in this race whose entire life represents his commitment to profound service to our nation ... military service and public service," said the members of the Texas Delegation.  "From the halls of the University of Houston under an ROTC scholarship, to the halls of Harvard, to the Texas National Guard, to the halls of the State Capitol, to the mountains of Afghanistan after 9-11, and to the Texas border with Operation Jumpstart - we know that Rick Noriega is the candidate to best serve Texans in the United States Senate."

"On the defining issues of the day - national security, border security, health insurance for our children, and fiscal responsibility - Rick is uniquely positioned, by virtue of his life experience, to best serve Texas interests in the U.S. Senate," the members agreed.  "U.S. military policy will long command the attention of future Congresses.  Rick's understanding of on-the-ground logistics - as well as abilities and limitations - of our military will be a fresh and important voice in the Senate on military issues."

Charles Kuffner adds some insight as to why this is really pretty awesome and a success for Team Noriega.

Excellent. It may not seem like a big deal for a bunch of Democratic members of Congress to endorse a Democrat running for Senate, but 1) it's never a trivial thing to get a bunch of Democrats to agree on anything; 2) the more unified Noriega's support is here, the more likely he'll get support from the national folks; and 3) this is still a contested primary, however loosely that's being defined.

You may be wondering about that thirteenth member of Congress. That would be Rep. Henry Cuellar, and as usual, he's doing his own thing.

Various members of Congress also taped video statements of support which the campaign will be distributing over the coming days.

You're Selling Harvey Short (0.00 / 0)
With all respect, Harvey Kronberg did not call the Noriega endorsements "an unprecedented early show...."   Instead, Harvey posted the first paragraph of the Noriega campaign press release, which contained that statement, and linked to the rest, without comment.  In case you haven't noticed, Harvey has been posting political press releases -- as a courtesy -- for years.  His own political commentary is far more sophisticated, and less gullible, that what you're crediting him with here.

what? (0.00 / 0)
are you talking about?

i didn't see KT sell anyone short. i saw him agree with Harvey.

What are you talking about? (1.00 / 2)
Harvey didn't say anything to agree or disagree with.  He merely posted a Noriega press release, without comment.  So, colin, what precisely did KT agree with?  There was nothing to agree with except the Noriega campaign press release.  Since KT works for the Noriega campaign, it's hardly surprising that he agreed with that.

i'll do this slowly so you can follow (3.00 / 1)
Harvey Kronberg calls it "an unprecedented early show of confidence in a candidate for the race for U.S. Senator from Texas". I tend to agree.

KT quoted QR and then said "I tend to agree".

I read the same thing on QR and it isn't apparent that Harvey is quoting the press release. I didn't see any quotes.

Last I heard KT wasn't in the press release department, but your clearly hostile to KT and Noriega so you're not much interested in anything but attacking Dems.

Trying to hijack this positive thread to attack a Dem is sad and pathetic. I think you intended to go to a repub blog to bash Dems.

I Just Read This on Harvey's site, Quorum Report (1.00 / 2)
"December 7, 2007      4:48 PM
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY: DECEMBER 7, 2007
Press releases, announcements and the like
To our friends in the blogosphere: The Executive Summary is compilation of press releases and announcements. We excerpt the key paragraphs and then link you to the full release. Some have been claiming that the press release words in the Executive Summary are mine. They are not. HK"

Our friend colin went out of his way to be insulting:  "I'll do this slowly so you can follow."  Does he have any comment now?  Karl-Thomas?

BTW, I never attack anyone.  I do try to straighten out obvious errors when I see them.  If anyone objects to this, he/she is intent on self-delusion.

Sometimes we make mistakes on BOR. Sometimes Harvey does too. I've long since gotten over that fact and moved on and updated the post for those are concerned about it.

Harvey said nothing to agree or disagree with.  He merely posted a Noriega press release, without comment.  KT agreed with the Noriega release, which Harvey printed.  Since KT works for the Noriega campaign, that's not surprising. The amusing part is that KT made a whopping mistake -- thinking that Harvey's reprint was Harvey's own opinion -- and won't admit it.

The editors of this blog are quick to take down comments that point out their errors and/or their conflicts of interest.  It's like Stalinist Russia, where the maximum leaders can never be shown to be wrong.  This post probably won't last very long, either.

i'm not with the site (0.00 / 0)
but i know that comments are rated by the users.  nearest i can tell, there are thousands of users on this site, and like you, they have the ability to each rate a comment based on its merit.  not sure it resembles Stalinist Russia, it's pretty democratic since every person has a voice.  your comments don't disappear, they are given low ratings because they contribute nothing and are purely meant to attack.  i know this because i gave a worthless comment of yours on another post a 0 rating a while back.  when you cried foul, KT even explained this to you.

you obviously troll the site looking to attack Noriega and KT.  do what you will, but realize that the thousands of users have the ability to call you out when you type trash.

amazing isn't it? (0.00 / 0)
When people continue to believe there is a socialist conspiracy against them, even after being told how our overly democratic system works.

I'm all for democracy (0.00 / 0)
There are apparently 2,500+ people registered on this site. So how many of them -- under this democratic system -- does it take to remove a comment?  1,251?

My previous "democratically removed" posting that Joe refers to came in context of a big journal item profiling and extolling the editors of BOR.  My posting mostly linked to a progressive South Texas blogger who had questioned Karl-Thomas's previous BOR writings suggesting Gov. Perry was gay.   In my opinion, the blogger's commentary was relevent, in context, and added to the discussion.

My item had exactly one negative rating when it was suddenly removed from the site.  If a tiny handful of people can make these decisions on a site used by thousands, that doesn't fit any definition of democracy I'm aware of.

Imagine that (5.00 / 1)
So you find it strange that trusted users of the site (who have gained the respect of their peers here by writing good content and being rewarded with high comment ratings)... you find it strange that they might not think highly of a user who comes here to bash the writers who created and maintain this space for a discussion of Texas politics?

Those people earned the ability to help manage the community so we as front page writers don't have to. I often rate things back up just as much if not more than I rate anything down in managing the site. It's a self balancing system that works 95% of the time and allows me not to have to go to the step of banning anyone.

But please remember, that the owners of this site are not obligated to guarantee anyone the right to use the space if their purposes are simply to trash how it works or the people who write here. I don't have to pay to give you a space to anonymously trash us.
