How were your precinct conventions last week? Are you a delegate? Is this your first time or 20th?  Tales of conventions past?

My only story is that perpetual homeless transgender candidate and now candidate for Austin Mayor Jennifer Gale is a fellow delegate in my precinct (147-Campus).  Homeless voters can register at any location, so long as they can receive their card at a physical address (shelters, PO Box, etc.)

Precinct 235 (0.00 / 0)
A grand total of 4 voters showed up. Our precinct chair didn't even make it. Pretty sad.
However, the folks that did show were very passionate, and we had a great discussion. It looks like three of us will be attending the County Convention as delegates.

Oh, and one more thing from my precinct:

Total number of primary voters born between 1980 and 1988: 4
Total number of primary voters born between 1914 and 1922: 6

Pct 235 (0.00 / 0)
I think we may have a quorum here. Yes, our precinct convention was rather pathetic. Only 2 of us had ever been to one before, & I lived in Hyde Park for 20 years, where everybody has gone to their convention forever & I just never had to pay attention to how the thing was run. But it turned out ok. Small, but ok.

And just to let you all know - I have a really good excuse for not going to the convention. I'm training for the Hill Country Ride for AIDS & can't take a Saturday off. On the other hand, there will be many people there that I can bug for donations....

Speaking of none of the above - has anyone seen the March issue of Harper's magazine? I bought a copy just so I could walk around with it. Rec cover, big white letters: "IMPEACH HIM" ha ha ha ha ha

Was elected Precinct Chair... (0.00 / 0)
but couldn't stay for my precinct convention, as I was running the election at another precinct, and had to get back to the party office ASAP.

We only had two folks sign in, so we're both delegates to the 23rd Senatorial Convention.

I am! (0.00 / 0)
I am my precinct chair and I had 2 other folks show up, one of which was working the election. So it was fairly convenient. None of us had ever done it before so we had to figure out the paperwork but it wasnt too hard.

I also brought up some resolutions, to which they really wanted no part of because they wanted to go home, but they stayed and listened to them as I read as fast as possible and we passed them.

Denton County only holds a county convention, so we are delegates to that. We had 8 spots to fill and there is only 3 of us. Not bad I suppose considering I have no idea who else is in my precinct and its 100% apartments.

Im also in the city of Dallas, which only has 7 precincts in the southeast corner of Denton County, so most people living there dont even know theyre in Denton County. Especially since we are literally on the boundary with Collin County across the street, and Dallas County 1/2 mile south. So its rough going right now trying to get my list of Dems straight.

Work cut out for us (3.00 / 1)
In a precinct in East Texas that's indicative of many areas which Democrats have simply written off and conceded.  There were a grand total of three of us (myself, the precinct chair, and his wife).  It was my first precinct convention, but had done some reading on the internet to know what to expect.  I began by walking the chair through the order of things and the need to complete the minutes.  At that point, I was elected convention chair.  Introduced a couple of resolutions and received a perplexed look and cursory glance at the time in response to my efforts.

It's time to get out and start turning the tide precinct by precinct and I'm ready to do my part.  This is not intended to be governement of the wealthy, by the religous right, and for the corporate interests.  My memory serves me to the phrase "of the people, by the people, and for the people".  Passion is needed now, at the time of the county conventions, to get momentum rolling.

Our precinct had 6 of us (0.00 / 0)
which actually wasn't bad, considering there were 3 precincts voting at the same location and of the others, one had their two poll workers and the other had just one person.

The last caucus in 2004 our precinct had 17.  I think 2004 there was the interest in signing in for your presidential preference and the other draw was that the state convention was being held here in Houston, so more people were interested in being delegates to state.

I've been in Texas for 24 years and never missed a precinct caucus.  I've been a delegate to my SD many times and to state a few times.  Back in Ohio, I've been a state delegate a few times, too, but we didn't have primary night caucuses.

Those aren't conventions! (5.00 / 1)
Those are coffee breaks!  It's time to recognize that the convention system is non-functional and obsolete.

PCT147 (0.00 / 0)
I attended the precinct convention for Travis County precinct 147 in 2002 along with Jennifer Gale and one other person.  I was a delegate to the state senate convention where 147 was paired with the other campus precinct for a single delegate to the state convention.  Jim Dallas and I flipped a coin to decide who was delegate and who was alternate. I was delegate that year, and Jim was alternate.

Pct Chair & Infamous Celebrity (0.00 / 0)
I was elected the new precinct chair.  Four people (including me) showed up to the pct convention and we had five delegate slots, so we're all delegates.  And on top of this, this is all our first time.

There was a person of notoriety at the Republican pct convention that was right next to us...KEN MERCER.

wow (0.00 / 0)
That's weird. And also the first report of a full delegation I've heard. Congrats.

On campus, we actually filled all of the 12 seats we had to the county convention in pct 148.  We only got 6 of the 9 in my campus precinct.

full delegation (0.00 / 0)
I'm proud to say our delegation was full as well. And 3 of the 4, including me, had never been to a precinct convention before.

We've never had a full delegation (3.00 / 1)
even in presidential years, when we get a bigger turnout.

This year we only had 6 turn out for the caucus and we were allotted 16 delegates and 16 alternates (32).  Not likely we'd fill our delegation, since we had 19 vote early and 16 voted at the polls (35).  Of the 19 early votes, 6 of them are overseas. Imagine the runoff we'll have.

Odd thing (0.00 / 0)
I have the precinct list and he isn't even on it.  I thought you had to live in that precinct.

you do (0.00 / 0)
are you sure your list wasn't just for the Demcratic primary/voters?

Maybe (0.00 / 0)
May have been.  The list of voters I was given had the number at 2,584; it just seemed large to me.

Precinct 329 (0.00 / 0)
I was the only one who showed up...so you can guess the rest. I voted myself chair and a delegate woohoo! The Republicans (about 12 of them) in the other room laughed but I didn't care.

247 - Close to Campus (0.00 / 0)
On election day I worked as an elections clerk and didn't finish up with my duties until about 7:30pm.  I saw the two-three fellow pct. 247 dems sitting over across the room but unfortunately didn't have time to join them.  I did however chuckle a bit when the republican precinct chairman sat alone.

I look forward to meeting some of you next weekend at the Travis Co. Convention.
