Supporting Rick Noriega

by: John Kerry

Thu Nov 08, 2007 at 02:41 PM CST

(Please welcome Sen. John Kerry to Burnt Orange Report! - promoted by Karl-Thomas Musselman)

OK, I've not posted here before, but I decided to today, driven here by two events --

First, here in the Senate we've been trying to add a bunch of money for returning vets into an appropriations bill, money that the Republicans voted for in large numbers. But now, they're trying to block that money once again. Just to make it clear - they're blocking the exact same bill they once voted for. I mean, really, they really were for it before they were against it.

The other thing I saw: President Bush is fundraising in Texas today for his fellow Texan and diehard Roadblock Republican, John Cornyn. And just a couple of weeks ago, I met John Cornyn's Democratic opponent, Rick Noriega. Rick's a fine man, and he's a veteran of the war in Afghanistan.

The double whack at veterans ... well, I take hits to veterans personally.

So when I saw this hit on veterans, and I saw George W. Bush working to shore up the support of one of his chief allies in obstruction at the expense of another veteran, I decided I needed to speak out.

So, do what you can to help Rick Noriega. He's a veteran, endorsed by VoteVets.org. And he's a Texan, grew up in Houston, graduated from the University of Houston, and, well, I probably don't need to tell you much about Rick.

I set up a fundraising page here, and Rick's website is here. Anything you can do to give money, or volunteer, anything can help. You know how big Texas is. With so much ground to cover and 20+ media markets to worry about, it's going to take a big effort to get John Cornyn out of the Senate and overcome the help he'll get from his friends in high places.

You and I worked very hard last year to win this slim majority, raising money and campaigning with lots of veterans and other Democrats. But it's clear we have some more work to do to clear out all of the Roadblocks to getting a progressive agenda moving in this country. We don't yet have a working majority on too many issues. So I'm going to be dedicating myself to building a bigger majority - and that starts with veterans like Rick.

This is no one-time deal, either. I'll be doing a lot to kick the Roadblock Republicans to the curb. In fact, just today, we started a website dedicated to that: roadblockrepublicans.com. We'll be watching John Cornyn and all the rest of the party that seems to have no purpose but to block our progress. And we'll have some fun while we do it.

So do what you can for Rick, and help us clear the roadblock and get this country moving again.

Welcome to the neighborhood (5.00 / 1)
and many thanks for your support, Senator.

Before you win, you have to fight. Come fight along with us at TexasKaos.

Glad to have you, sir (0.00 / 0)
I'm happy that you support Rick, and I'm right with you on it.

Full Disclosure: Former Political Director for Lee Leffingwell for Mayor of Austin, and now nonpartisan Executive Director of LWV-TX

Thank you for (5.00 / 1)
your support, Senator Kerry.  We are very proud of Mr. Noriega's accomplishments, his courage and integrity.  We'll do whatever it takes to send him to Washington.

Thank you (4.00 / 6)
Thanks all of you for your welcome. We have a lot of work to do over the next year, but the results could be great for this country.

How does Noriega win and also assume office... (5.00 / 1)
with these e-voting, scanning and tabulating machines that have removed or hidden the evidence of paper ballots from a timely and meaningful first count, as was done to John Kerry and Al Gore?

And yet Democrats made gains in 2006. Well, just see what happened: http://electiondefen...

Back to 2004

"Letters from the Edge" Part 2

Michael Collins
"Scoop" Independent News
Washington, DC (Part 1)

56 of 88 Ohio counties defied a federal court order and failed to return some or all of the 2004 presidential ballots that they were ordered to retain indefinitely. Over 1.5 million ballots were destroyed or lost, key evidence for major federal law suit charging election fraud and voter suppression in the 2004 presidential contest. For example: "fraudulent votes … cast for George W. Bush; inflating of vote tabulations in areas that tended to vote for George Bush."

snip

Yet the case proceeds in federal court. Despite the destroyed evidence, there are still extensive records of voting patterns and election practices that denied Kerry supporters their right to vote and have their vote counted. There remains the meticulous record in the form of data, analyses, photographs and video tapes. The people of Ohio and the United States demand a rational process to examine our flawed election system. It's time for the truth about Ohio's 2004 presidential election. No subsequent election can have meaning and legitimacy without that truth.

And the number crunchers at the National Election Pool may have been asked to fix up those awkward exit polls.

Fix them they did. When the national exit polls were last updated, at 1:36 a.m. EST on November 3, men's votes (still 46 percent of the total) had gone 54 percent to Bush, 45 percent to Kerry, and 1 percent to Nader; women's votes (54 percent of the total) had gone 47 percent to Bush, 52 percent to Kerry, and 1 percent to Nader.

But how do we know the fix was in? Because the exit poll data also included the total number of respondents. At 9:00 p.m. EST, this number was well over 13,000; by 1:36 a.m. EST on November 3 it had risen by less than 3 percent, to a final total of 13, 531 respondents-but with a corresponding swing of 5 percent from Kerry to Bush in voters' reports of their choices. Given the increase in respondents, a swing of this size is a mathematical impossibility.

The same pattern is evident in the exit polls of two key swing states, Ohio and Florida.

At 7:32 p.m. EST, CNN was reporting the following exit poll data for Ohio. Women voters (53 percent of the total) favoured Kerry over Bush by 53 percent to 47 percent; male voters (47 percent of the total) preferred Kerry over Bush by 51 percent to 49 percent. Kerry was thus leading Bush by a little more than 4 percent. But by 1:41 a.m. EST on November 3, when the exit poll was last updated, a dramatic shift had occurred: women voters had split 50-50 in their preferences for Kerry and Bush, while men had swung to supporting Bush over Kerry by 52 percent to 47 percent. The final exit polls showed Bush leading in Ohio by 2.5 percent.

At 7:32 p.m., there were 1,963 respondents; at 1:41 a.m. on November 3, there was a final total of 2,020 respondents. These fifty-seven additional respondents must all have voted very powerfully for Bush-for while representing only a 2.8 percent increase in the number of respondents, they managed to produce a swing from Kerry to Bush of fully 6.5 percent.

And new information on Gore's 2000 race from Dan Rather. Transcript at:

http://election-refo...

...

Please talk with Al Gore and John Edwards and all the Democrats (especially Holt, Hoyer, and Dodd) about any possible way to correct this now, right now, or in the near future before 2008. Voters want the people who win to assume office to solve the serious problems of reversing climate collapse and restoring the middle class and our Democracy.

Please see what you can do. Thank you so much John Kerry.

If Only! (0.00 / 0)
If only you'd appeared as the firey and passionate Senator in '04 that you look like today!

All the same, it's great to see you putting an investment in Texas.  I loved seeing you when you came through Austin before and I'm thrilled to see you take an interest in Texas politics today.

You'll continue to get my full support.

I thought Kerry (0.00 / 0)
was passionate. Lest we forget, there was some serious cheatin' agoin' on...

Senator Kerry won the City of Dallas (3.50 / 2)
with a margin of 53,902 votes.

I'd like to see the Noriega campaign arrange an appearance here.

Here are the results:

And that was the beginning (0.00 / 0)
of the end of the GOP hold on Dallas County.

Done! (5.00 / 1)
Hey,

Kerry is from Massachusetts and is now in Texas (at least virtually) and so am I. We both are Democrats and both support Noriega.

We're practically related!  I put my contribution in today.

Sounds kind of like me too (5.00 / 1)
*grin*
