Rep. Corte Deployed to Iraq

by: Karl-Thomas Musselman

Thu Feb 02, 2006 at 11:59 PM CST

Matt has the big news over at Just Another Blog.  Candidate Larry Stallings in HD-122 responds on his own blog here.  Kuff reminds us of a similar situation with Rep. Noriega, and that in both cases, it may be the wife who carries on his term.

As to how this changes the election dynamic, I'm not sure.  It's hard to run against an incumbant who's serving his country, but then again, Corte won't exactly be around to run much of a campaign.  But had this been a major scandal that had broken, it's a credit to Larry Stallings being there as the Democratic nominee, ready to go.  It's why we should always Run, Everywhere.

Speaking of running everywhere, that's something we'll be seeing a lot more of, say, if we had a new state party chair...

Best of Wishes for Rep. Corte (0.00 / 0)
KT, whether or not you meant it, this post comes off as sounding like you  -- and, thus, the entire BOR crowd -- wished Rep. Corte was in some sort of scandal, just so the "run everywhere" strategy would be proven right. Now, I want to win as much as we can, but if we don't step back and respect the bigger picture, we lose sight of what we're all trying to do in the first place. I mean, instead of even wishing Rep. Corte the best of luck, you're thinking about how this could have played out for the state party chair's race.

I think it's entirely inappropriate to talk about how "brilliant" the run everywhere strategy would be if Rep. Corte was involved in some sort of scandal. The guy's being deployed. Whether or not you or I or any of our readers agree with what's going on over there, it's happening, and people like Rep. Corte and Rep. Noriega are the ones putting their lives on the line.

98% of the time, we need to focus on winning and GOTV and talking about our Democratic ideas and values. But when something like this happens, you do what the ACTUAL candidate did -- wish Godspeed to Rep. Corte, and leave the strategy sessions out of it.

Sometimes, we've got to look at the bigger world...and think about how that bigger world might be looking at us.

Now, a very great man once said that some people rob you with a fountain pen.

I think the others linked in the opening paragraph had fully covered the 'godspeed and good wishes' part of the story.  And as I wish him well (and did so in saying the Representative will be off serving his country), I feel little need to limit such a post to a repetition of the well wishes story which has already been said.
