Cornyn and Rove Sitting in a Tree

by: Todd Hill

Thu Jul 12, 2007 at 08:48 AM CDT

You know how the rest of the rhyme goes, but it would appear that Cornyn is so desperate to continue pandering at the heels of his master George W. Bush that he feels the need to trot Karl Rove out for a fundraiser to bolster his war chest.

Cornyn’s fundraising efforts have apparently taken on a sense of urgency based on Mikal Watt’s $1.1 million haul this past quarter, which allowed Senator Rubberstamp to recycle Chapter 3 of the GOP playbook entitled “Attack the Trial Lawyers.”

Cornyn has scheduled a series of fundraisers for the weekend of July 20, featuring presidential adviser Karl Rove as the main attraction. But an invitation letter for the Harlingen event also plays off Republican reactions to trial lawyers.

"We will also have the opportunity to help the senator begin preparing for what appears to be a wealthy, self-financed personal injury lawyer opponent," said a Cornyn campaign committee letter signed by James G. Springfield, CEO of Valley Baptist Health System in Harlingen.

A Cornyn fundraising letter sent out last month by John Nau of Houston noted: "Unfortunately, John appears to have drawn a very wealthy personal injury lawyer Mikal Watts as a potential opponent." Cornyn's aides declined to discuss the specifics of his letters.

Considering Rove’s participation in undermining national security by exposing the name of an undercover CIA operative simply out of vengeance, his involvement in the firing of well qualified US Attorney’s because they didn’t answer the Roe v. Wade question to the ideological standards set by this administration, and his overall gross involvement in sending this country to war without justification or provocation, and therefore mortgaging America’s future to quench a thirst for wealth and power; Cornyn can play whatever card he wants but it doesn’t change his bedfellows.

Nor will it dismiss his strong desire to be on the deck of this administration's Titanic as it continues to sink farther and farther in the abyss of voter approval.  As goes this administration's poll numbers so goes Cornyn’s.

The trial lawyer card isn’t going to work this time because Texans are desperate for politicians to represent and fight for them.  Trial lawyers hold big business and corrupt corporations accountable for harm their products do to consumers.  Whether you are a Lt. Colonel in the National Guard or a lawyer with a history of holding companies accountable, a Democrat will fight for the needs of common Texans and not the special interests and corporate lobbyists notorious for bolstering John Cornyn’s attention and campaigns.

Desperate, deranged or scary? (5.00 / 1)
It simply astonishes me that Cornyn would prevail upon Rove of all people.  Is he aware that Rove has absolutely no credibility with anyone except for Bush and the WH inner circle?  Indeed, Rove is viewed by most sane people as an unchecked lowlife criminal in the White House.  Members of the Senate Judiciary Committee are gunning for the turd blossom and I suspect they will prevail in time.  Yesterday, during the U.S. Attorney firings Judiciary Committee hearings, I believe it was Senator Schumer who said “Karl Rove should be sitting here, not you” when questioning Ms. Taylor.  And today W. admitted that someone in his WH had leaked the name of a CIA agent but it “is time to move on.”  W. will do everything in his power, including overstepping his bounds, to prevent Rove and Libby from being held accountable to the American people.

So, the fact that Cornyn calls on the biggest manipulator of facts, speech, information and one who shows unveiled contempt for the law – the dirty trickster who goes beyond the pale (Bush I canned Rove for such) to help him out gives me great pause.  Does this mean Cornyn is so terrified of losing that he feels he must resort to serious voter suppression and illegal caging acts to win?

I mean what other use would the Turd Blossom serve here?  Rove was the master mind behind Tim Griffin’s voter caging shenangans in Florida in 2004.  You may recall that Griffin was recently installed by the White House to replace the sitting U.S. Attorney in Arkansas.  Griffin has recently resigned.

Anyone who could rubber stamp W. at this point in his Administration does not deserve to represent the people of Texas.  A person so out of touch with mainstream and rational thought should be run out of the U.S. Senate on a rail, thank you very much.

If anyone should think I am exaggerating the issue of voter fraud, suppression and  caging, please read the blog below for a thorough account of GOP voting shenanigans since 2004.
