Three Candidates for Texas Senate Primary

by: Todd Hill

Fri Jul 06, 2007 at 10:03 AM CDT

In all the hooplah around which Democrat is better between Watts and Noriega to StopCornyn, Emil Reichstadt, a Dallas lawyer and former JAG Army officer, announced he was running against John Cornyn back in April.

This from Reichstadt's press release:

Saying that he is deeply concerned about the welfare of American children and alarming environmental and national security issues, longtime local private practice attorney Emil Reichstadt is declaring for the Texas 2008 U.S. Senate race Thursday, April 19, on the Southern Methodist University campus in Dallas.

According to Reichstadt's press release, he is the youngest of three sons.  His father was a swiss immigrant who married his wife in Little Rock, AR.  Emil has been married for over 30 years and he, and his children, attend the Highland Park United Methodist Church in Dallas.  Has quite the volunteer background as well.

My favorite quote by Reichstadt was in regards to the military:

"We need to foster our leaders in the military as subject-matter experts and rely on their expertise," he says. "We cannot wallow in military policies of politics; we must let our soldiers protect themselves. We are mired in sinking sand in Iraq, in the middle of a civil war that our best military minds sought to avoid. The war has been terribly mismanaged, and the incumbent, John Cornyn, has stood by and blindly supported that mismanagement."

So as we continue and debate Watts versus Noriega, we need not forget there is another candidate in this race who deserves to be vetted in the manner the other two are as well.

Welcome, Emil Reichstadt, to the Texas Democratic Senatorial Primary debate.

We never got anything more than a press release when Emil launched, but we did make a link to Vince's post at Cap Annex.

Policy position (0.00 / 0)
Emil Reichstadt is unabashedly in favor of beach house living, and so am I.

Wedge issues (0.00 / 0)
People need to stop it with these wedge issues. The pro-glass conservatives will beat Emil with this in the general.

A sand wedgie does *not* sound pleasant.

John Cornyn has a primary opponent as well, guys: http://www.larrykilg...

He finished second to Perry in last year's GOP primary.

Hmm. It's odd that (0.00 / 0)
A man who supposedly supports Teas independence is running for the United States senate.

Well, it's hard to gauge Reichstadt, seeing as how the issues page on his website, which I agree needs a domain, is blank...I don't really know where he stands.

My wish... (0.00 / 0)
I wish Reichstadt would back out of this Senate race and instead challenge Pete Sessions for that US Congress seat.  I think he'd be somebody, given his background, that I'd be very interested in working with...

Not too late ... (0.00 / 0)
maybe its worth sending him an email of encouragement.
