Frost is Back in the Saddle Again

by: Todd Hill

Sun Jun 10, 2007 at 07:15 PM CDT

Former Congressman Martin Frost has added another bullet to his resume by heading up America Votes, a self-proclaimed progressive get-out-the-vote venture.

From the America Votes press release:

“America Votes has changed the way progressives approach politics and I look forward to continuing the innovative work already accomplished,” Frost said. “Joining a proven organization with such significant partners is an opportunity anyone committed to progressive ideals wouldn’t hesitate to take.”

Via the Star-Telegram:

"It's not candidate-specific; it's issues -- pro-choice, pro-environment, pro-worker's rights."

Frost notes that America Votes is a coalition of over 37 membership organizations that pool their resources together to build, empower, and activate the progressive community.

I’m very excited to see Martin Frost get back into the political game again.  He is an immense talent who couldn’t be beaten fair and square in an election; it took Republicans formulating a gerrymandered district to take out a good congressman who did great work for the people of North Texas.  Having worked on his campaigns in the past, I was always impressed by the massive, well organized field machine that he was able to build.  I learned more from his campaign in 2004 then any other campaign I've ever worked on.

I wonder if this venture is an effort to fill a void in his life, or perhaps an opportunity to improve his already vast network of connections for something more.

I dont think he ever left.

Absent (0.00 / 0)
He was visably absent, especially in North Texas. Writing and doing commentary for Fox News doesn't count as being involved in North Texas political circles for me.

Good Point (0.00 / 0)
He was indeed involved in LSP and Angle.  He was also a keynote speaker in some fundraisers, lending his name to host committees and such.

My point is only that he was somewhat reclusive and on the sidelines for a bit.  Not leading anything, just lending his name and support mostly.

Now he is physically involved, literally day to day operations of an organization.  I see that as different.

That said, I imagine that had something to do with the loss of his wonderful wife too, him being somewhat reclusive and uninterested in getting involved.  I think he needed some healing after the '04 loss and then the loss of his wife, a former general in the Army.

is this group active in Texas? (0.00 / 0)
From looking at the website it doesn't seem as if it targets Texas for turnout.

In 2004 it was swing state focused (0.00 / 0)
Headed up by Cecile Richards so at least they are keeping Texans in charge
