Rep. Colemen Files Ethics Complain Against Ron Wilson

by: Matt Glazer

Sat May 26, 2007 at 01:48 PM CDT

Terry Keel and Ron Wilson have some questionable practices in their past and present.  Rep. Garnet Coleman wants some answers.

Garnet F. Coleman (D-Houston) delivered to the Texas Ethics Commission on Saturday two ethics complaints against former State Representative Ron Wilson, who is currently serving as Speaker Tom Craddick's Assistant Parliamentarian.

The first ethics complaint states that Mr. Wilson has not yet paid an $8,300 fine to the State of Texas for failing to disclose his campaign finances before his March 2004 defeat in the Texas Democratic Primary. In failing to disclose his campaign finances before his defeat, Mr. Wilson hid $10,000 from the "All Children Matter PAC," which is run by Dr. James Leininger

"Ron Wilson has failed to pay an $8,300 to the state of Texas," Rep. Coleman said. "We should not have an Assistant Parliamentarian advising the Speaker on rules when the Assistant Parliamentarian cannot follow the rules himself."

Sock it to 'em, Rep. Coleman. (5.00 / 1)
If Keel and Wilson want to play Gonzales and Yoo, then I want them to feel the full force of their arrogance.

"Kill" the Unitary Speaker principle.

Grandstanding. Again. (0.00 / 0)
Why didn't Garnet Coleman file the ethics complaint before? Ron Wilson was fined in 2004? This is 2007? How many others haven't paid their fines?  Is Garnet going to file against them as well?

Looks like Garnet has fallen victim to "Chris Bell Syndrome"  which results in filing ethics complaints only when there is a political advantage in doing so.  And if history repeats itself, Patton Boggs will soon have another lobbyist.

Grandstanding.  What Garnet apparently does best.

Because he is an officer of the House (0.00 / 0)
How many other Assistant Parliamentarians haven't paid state fines?

0 at my last count.

And members of the House? (1.00 / 2)
There are no members of the House who haven't paid their fines?

There certainly have been quite a few fined. Let's not talk about ethics. Just who hasn't paid their fines. Especially when you look at the number of "key Democrats" having been fined regardless of whether they paid the fine or not. I forgot.  It's corruption when it involves a Republican. Just a little error when it involves a Democrat. The Pelosi Defense. Violation of ethics law is violation of ethics law.

And grandstanding is grandstanding.

When Wilson is installed (5.00 / 1)
as an asst parliamentatian of the house, the issue becomes urgent and immediate. A compromised parlimentarian cannot be taken as an impartial arbiter of the house rules.

When he was a private citizen, after being voted out of office, I'll bet you would have whined that Rep. Coleman was picking on poor little Wilson who wasn't even a officeholder anymore.

What is the issue? (0.00 / 0)
Is the issue the matter of his being fined or his not paying the fine? Slippery little slope you are sliding on if you ask me.

Not only is corruption not confined to Republicans but apparently hypocrisy isn't either.

[ Parent ]
Hypocrisy isn't partisan (0.00 / 0)
as you demonstrate regularly.

Oh my (1.00 / 1)
How am I being hyporitical in pointing out the obvious? You need to read the issued orders by the Texas Ethics Commission.  And also the delinquent filers list.  I have to wonder if Garnet Coleman has ever appeared on there. And been fined.  Everyone else seems to have been.  Walking your talk seems as difficult for Democrats as it is Republicans when talking about ethics. And when filing ethics complaints against others.

"Gay kakken af en yam."  English translation: You're so full of it, only the sea could handle it.

What the hell do you think THEY are doing? (5.00 / 1)
If Wilson wants to play like that, so be it. He has his ass in the air. Coleman just kicked it for him.

Quit crying. This is not tiddly winks.

And Craddick has an ethics complaint filed against him also for hiding $32,000 behind a credit card.

[ Parent ]
And how many complaints does Bill White have? (0.00 / 0)
You might want to peruse those orders of judgement of the Texas Ethics Commission. People who wallow in it should never throw it. Problem is the majority of our politicians are not only wallowing in it, they are drowning in it.

[ Parent ]
And your point is ---? (0.00 / 0)
They're all grandstanding.  The point is, don't jump in the fight, Ron Wilson, unless you're ready to get down and dirty.  We hurt you once, we'll hurt you again.  And again.  And again.

[ Parent ]
My point at this point.. (0.00 / 0)
I doubt Ron Wilson gives a flip about you or anyone else at this point.  In fact, he flipped the bird at everyone as soon as he left office.  Looking back, I would have done the same thing.

He shouldn't have supported the redistricting plan. But by the same token, he was supporting creation of more "minority" districts to ensure more "minority" representation. And that is really not such a bad thing. I think most of us have moved beyond the White Boys playing Big Daddy to minorities. The problem is some of the White Boys themselves haven't.  And they are the ones who went after Ron Wilson.

Don't shill for that guy (0.00 / 0)
simply because he too hates Chris Bell.

[ Parent ]
Which Chris Bell? (0.00 / 0)
Which Chris Bell? The savior-of-the-party politician or the self-serving Washington lobbyist?
