Huge Upset in Mansfield (3.00 / 1)
Arlington-Mansfield Democrats were closely following three races.  Marvin Sutton unfortunately lost to Robert Rivera Arlington Council District 3, and Michael Evans is headed for another runoff against James Rudnicki for Mansfield ISD, where Evans lost last time.  But, in the third race, unknown Barton Scott just crushed Mansfield Mayor Mel Neuman.  To show how unknown Scott is (or I should now say "was"), the Fort Worth Star Telegram's endorsement of Neuman didn't mention him.  For that matter, they also did not mention Mary Ann Johnston's opponent either, and she lost too.

I shouldn't mislead readers to believe that Scott is a typical or straight party Democratic voter.  In fact, he has problems with sex shops and describes himself as an independently-minded voter.  But, local Democrats supported him, and he's a big John Edwards fan.  I suspect that he'll support Paula Hightower Pierson in HD 93 and hopefully Kim Brimer's opponent in SD 10.

Congratulations Mayor Scott!

Wow! New Mayor of Mansfield's Web site (0.00 / 0)
I just looked at Barton Scott's Web site. I have to say, I haven't seen one with such detail for a small town race around these parts. Take a look at his left sidebar! :) And he apparently has deep roots in Mansfield. He tells his story with his Web site. And wants Mansfield to have a unique story in its future growth. He has a "blog," too!

His About Me page:

My name is Barton Lee Scott. I am 36 years old and my wife and I returned to Mansfield in 2000 to raise our family. I say return, because for most of my life Mansfield has been my home.  My best memories of Mansfield are playing at my Great-Grandma’s house and running across an open field to Ray’s Pharmacy to buy a handful of candy.  I come from a proud family that has been in Mansfield since 1906.  My Great-Great Grandfather Henry Conway Howard traveled to Mansfield in a covered wagon and raised his twelve children in this community.

Congratulations to Barton Scott!

By the way... (0.00 / 0)
I do see what you mean about his focus on "sex shops." Condoms and More stores do seem to be popping up around the D/FW area. Grand Prairie (right next door to Mansfield) made the same franchise re-name the store to "Romance Store."  They tried to close it down, but apparently it happened before they could prevent it from leasing the location. Or something like that. It is right next to the school's administration building, too. :)

I don't see any mention of John Edwards on his Web site.  Or did I miss it?

"school district's" administration building.

Edwards Comment (0.00 / 0)
I don't see any mention of John Edwards on his Web site.  Or did I miss it?

I would not expect him to write about presidential or other races, while running for mayor.  He told me this personally in a conversation we had at Democratic club meeting.

That explains it! (0.00 / 0)
Thank you. :)
