Kevin Durant Turning Pro

by: Phillip Martin

Tue Apr 10, 2007 at 11:55 AM CDT

I take my five-minute lunch break, and the first thing I see is "Texas All-American Durant to declare for NBA draft":
Texas All-American Kevin Durant plans to declare for the NBA draft and forgo his final three years of college eligibility, a person with knowledge of his decision making told the Houston Chronicle.

A press conference announcing his decision will be at 4 p.m. UT officials would not comment and a message left for Durant's father, Wayne Pratt, was not immediately returned.

I knew he was going to leave, but still.

Of course, this has the potential to be awesome: if the Boston Celtics draft him, and if I end up going to grad school in Boston, then it could all work out for the best.

A Legislative Alternative? (0.00 / 0)
I suggested to more than one legislator (well, two) that the state of Texas simply mandate that Durant stay at UT by legislative fiat. His rookie salary, in my plan, could be matched from the PUF - a bargain at twice the price.

Think of it as similar to the OU gambit, just on a grander, more brazen scale. What's a little $20 million+ NCAA rule violation among friends? ;)

Hand him some Enterprise Fund cash (0.00 / 0)
Dumping some of that money on KD is a smarter investment for economic development than anything else I can think of.

Just look at all those "small business owners" on the corner of MLK & Dean Keaton that scalp tickets and sell homemade t-shirts.  KD brings jobs to Texas.
