Ted Cruz was snubbed by Sarah Palin who gave whatever her endorsement is worth to Donald Trump.
Cruz tried to soften the blow by singing her praises and said he wouldn’t be in the Senate if it wasn’t for her support in 2012. Overall I’m not sure he’s missing much more than another cringe-worthy performance by Alaska’s own quitter-in-chief.
Palin, who shrieked through a mostly incomprehensible word salad, did manage to articulate a few face-palming one-liners. But her talking points were as if they had been cryogenically frozen from 2008 when all the worst predictions of 8 years of President Obama were being dreamt up. They bore little resemblance to the reality of years worth of steady private sector job creation and economic recovery.
She said, “Well, then, we’re talking about our very existence, so, no, we’re not gonna to chill. In fact, it’s time to drill, baby, drill down, and hold these folks accountable.” Yes, we all remember “drill baby drill.” But somewhere along the line, she wasn’t informed that under Obama we have record amounts of domestic oil production and drilling. And somehow she’s avoided noticing gas prices are under 2 dollars a gallon and $30 a barrel.
It was also strange that she chose to mentioning clinging to her guns the day after son was arrested in her home on assault charges and wielding an assault rifle while intoxicated. According to the New York Daily News he was charged with “fourth-degree assault, interfering with the report of a domestic violence crime and possession of a firearm while intoxicated.” The police report indicates that the woman who called 911 feared he was going to shoot himself and was holding a “cocked” AR-15 near his face.
How disconnected do you have to be to stand on a stage with Donald Trump and evangelize firearms while your son is essentially begging for help and suicidal? Here’s the quote I’m referencing : How about the rest of us? Right wingin’, bitter, clingin’, proud clingers of our guns, our God and our religions and our Constitution.” The opportunity to retort an Obama line barbing conservatives is greater than the necessity to address the imminent safety of her own child.
That folks is Palin family values. At least she didn’t mention abstinence-only education.
Palin isn’t the only snub Cruz got in Iowa this week. Gov. Terry Branstad called Cruz a “big oil” candidate and said, “It would be a big mistake for Iowa to support him.”
The polls are tight for 1st and 2nd in Iowa between Cruz and Trump and the winner would likely get a national bump along with bragging rights. Cruz called the Palin snub “deeply disappointing,” but now that he is officially a target as a frontrunner Cruz is probably wishing he had done more to win over at least a few more friends.
