Texas GOP Flips Its Lid Over Obama’s Popular Gun Safety Measures

Most Americans, nearly 90%, agree with the substance of President Obama’s move to improve and expand the nation’s background checks for firearms, but Republicans can’t see past the red in their eyes. They also seem to miss the growing list of Texas businesses banning open carry in their establishments.

The only thing that Congressional Republicans have pledged to actually do is work hard to stop any policy that has Obama’s name on it, so it’s no wonder their tears flow at every executive action.

The GOP has lost its head over the gun issue. Just as armed militants were taking over a federal building in Oregon, Texas Governor Greg Abbott responded to President Obama’s proposal with “Come And Take It.” It’s the “na na na boo boo” of the modern GOP, and illustrates the sad devolution of grown men into whiny babies.

Most of the statewide Republicans in Texas who elicited a response revealed that they heard not a word from the President’s mouth. Nothing about his proposal suggested that he would “take” anyone’s gun. If anything they should fear their own actions leading to their disarmament, such as the case with at least two high-profile Texas Republicans who are barred from purchasing or carrying firearms because of their felony indictments: former Governor Rick Perry and Attorney General Ken Paxton.

Screen Shot 2016-01-06 at 10.20.56 AMSince Obama took office there has been near exponential growth in gun sales and the stocks for the manufacturer Smith & Wesson have even outpaced Apple. There has been no threat to the 2nd Amendment, yet the neo-political correctness of the GOP won’t allow them to acknowledge this simple fact. Even worse, these elected officials have been sowing disrespect for the office of the President and distrust of the federal government at large and that has led to the bearing of the lovely fruit we see ripening in Oregon.

Even Ted Cruz, who appeared to cast Obama in a meme as a Nazi Stormtrooper who “wants your guns,” told the armed militants in Oregon to stand down. EVEN INFOWARS’ ALEX JONES SAID IT WAS NOT COOL. When Alex Jones, the man who has preached the ends days of a hostile federal takeover for years is a moderating force, we are entering a dark, dark place.

Jones’ rhetoric has infiltrated the GOP lexicon and led us to this place of paranoia. He praised Gov. Abbott for sending State Guard to watch over the US military to prevent a federal takeover during the Jade Helm 15 exercise (which Obama called the most ridiculous conspiracy he has heard in his presidency), his site is now regularly linked to by the Drudge Report, and he recently did an one on one interview with Donald Trump.

The irony is that Cruz’ image is taken right from Jones’ playbook meant to scare the crap out of angry working class whites, and now that their intellectual scions have taken over a federal building they seem to be frightened by their own success.
