| HB 2340- Would place the Texas Youth Commission into a conservatorship, a move the governor has refused to make.
HB3521- Allows the Attorney General to investigate claims of abuse, establishes an office of an inspector general, and requires that parents and youth be notified of their rights. It also bans sexual assault criminals from taking jobs within TYC facilities.
HB 2335- Requires a manageable student-to-guard ratio to reduce abuse, calls for an ombudsman to investigate abuse claims, and requires that Texas Rangers do monthly spot checks on all facilities.
Nice to see a Democrat step up to the plate, work bipartisanly, and develop legislation that will get to the bottom of this TYC debacle. The public needs answers, and accountability must be enforced. |
