Austin holds Big Gay Wedding, Now GOP Wants Government Out Of Marriage Business

Boy what a week! Progressives saw continued victories in the court, giant gay weddings across the state, and our Attorney General go from encouraging County Clerks to snub the Constitution to possibly facing his own first degree felony indictment.

Imad and I also discuss the “slippery slope” of marriage equality and what conservative members of the Texas legislature plan to do about it, hint: they want the Governor to call a special session.

Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick, our other favorite culture warrior tried to use the big 4th of July weekend to quietly dissolve his “grassroots advisory board,” you know the ones who think Pre-K is “communism?”

Also fun and exciting is the proxy war brewing between Ted Cruz and Rick Perry to be the lone star from Texas in the race for the GOP nomination. Cruz is backing Donald Trump over his ridiculous comments about immigrants and Perry is trying to steal some headlines by pushing back. My guess is Cruz knows the Trump camp will eventually implode and he wants to be the vacuum that sucks up all his support. A shrewd move especially since the Donald already raised the birther question over the fact Cruz was born in Canada.
