Carol Donovan Elected Our New DCDP County Chair

On Saturday, June 27, the Dallas County Democratic Precinct Chairs met to elect a new Dallas County Chair to replace Darlene Ewing, who resigned (after ten years in office) to run for Judge of the 254th District family court bench which had been held by the late Judge Jim Martin. Carol Donovan (at left above, with Darlene Ewing) won the election to fill out her term by 135 votes to 113. This term will run through twenty days after the 2016 Democratic primary / runoff.

Donovan was sworn in that same day by Judge Martin Hoffman at the Hall of State at Fair Park, where the Precinct Chairs voted. That same day she spoke with KTVT-TV CBS 11 (above) to cheer equality and reject the actions of Governor Abbott, saying she believes he is “encouraging government employees to disobey the law” and “He’s got to watch it or he is going to be the Governor Wallace of our time.” The story is at this link. On Monday morning she reached out to her election opponent Tex Quesada to ask him to be involved. That afternoon she chaired her first staff meeting. Preparations for the 2016 Primary and General Elections are already underway.

The new DCDP Chair is an attorney, mediator, and fundraiser who has been a Precinct Chair and was the first woman President of the University of Texas at Austin student body. Last year she was the Democratic candidate for State Representative in House District 107. She had posted her County Chair campaign flyer and all of her campaign letters on her Facebook page at https://facebook.com/CarolDonovanforDCDPchair. You may now reach her by email to Chair AT DallasDemocrats.org.
