by: Karl-Thomas Musselman

Tue Jan 16, 2007 at 10:13 PM CST

The Secretary of State has reported the final results in HD-29 runoff for which Republican would replace deceased Rep. Dawson (R).

Mike O'Day  3,555  57.23%
Randy Weber  2,657 42.77%

Results from the prior special election held in December were as follows.

Anthony A. DiNovo (D) 1,644 22.44%
John Gorman (R) 116 1.58%
Mike O'Day (R) 3,509 47.91%
Randy Weber (R) 2,055 28.05%

There are  83,661 registered voters in this district. Over 35,000 voted in the general election. O'Day is beholden only to the same 3500 voters who bothered to turnout in these elections- that's 4%.

I hope y'all are appreciating the snow and I a re-directed to Texas from Boston. It's been warmer here than in Austin since the weekend. Wicked.

Weber and O'Day kept their first special election totals except that Weber added some of DiNovo's perhaps?

I actually thought today would be an even lower turnout than what you are reporting. It looks like O'Day has some hard core base supporters that were going to get out and vote for him, weather be damned.

Is it too early to tell if Weber is the lesser of two evils?

It's just sad that Money and Name Recognition gets you basically anything these days, oh and of course... weasel-like friends in "high places" don't hurt either, I'd like to see some races won on the candidates background and credentials..where honesty and integrity means more than dollars.
Hopefully the next race will be so much better...
