Photos from Clinton GOTV rally in San Antonio for Ciro Rodriguez

( - promoted by Karl-Thomas Musselman)

I attended the GOTV rally at Palo Alto College on the south side of San Antonio this afternoon and got a number of pictures of the event.  I've posted them at my blog, B and B.

Clinton gave a great speech, emphasizing the need to turn out the vote.  It is all up to us, he said.  Do we want to join the 29 districts that voted out the GOP and sent Democrats to Congress, or will we join the dozen or so districts that came up just short?

Prior to Clinton's arrival, former San Antonio mayor Henry Cisneros brought down the house.  "I do not understand a man like Henry Bonilla, who grew up in this area, and yet has voted time and again and again against the interests of the people of this area.  It's time to tell him, Ya basta!  Ya acabo'!  Ya vete!"  (Video here)

It's all up to us to send Bonilla home in favor of Ciro Rodriguez.

Update:  I finally figured out how to embed the YouTube videos into my blog posts, so I've added a post with the Cisneros video and also one of Clinton remarking on Bonilla's expressed happiness that Clinton was coming to town to campaign for Ciro.

Henry Cisneros to Henry Bonilla (5.00 / 2)
"Ya basta, ya cabamos, ya vete!"

Loosely translated to "We've had enough, we're through with you, now leave"

I love it.

There once (5.00 / 3)
was a pol named Bonilla,
Who was, truth to tell, a bolillo.
Brown on the outside,
But white on the inside,
He was really a small pendejillo.

A Great Boost to a Significant Campaign (3.00 / 1)
I was a volunteer worker at the rally, and it was a privilege.  I was humbled to be in the presence of President Clinton, and all of the speakers.

Ciro's run for Congress is especially symbolic since he was redistricted out of his seat by Delay's gerrymandering.  Plus, he was one of the few Congresspeople who recognized the folly of Bush's Iraq war from the start -- he voted against the resolution for use of force.  If we can send him back to Congress, it will symbolize the rejection of the redistricting and acknowledgment of his early understanding of the sitting President's mistakes.

You can still get out the vote for Ciro for Tuesday's election by calling voters at TrueBlueAction.com.

Totally agree Cheryl (0.00 / 0)
This district 23 is very symbolic.  It must be represented by one of our own.  The whole point of the final round of redistricting via the courts, was to correct for the flaw in TX-23 that allowed Bonilla to win last time anyway.  This district is important for Ciro to win and for a final stick it in Tom DeLay's face for messing with Texas.

Glad you made the rally!

To Think I Was A Witness To History Or Gerrymandering (5.00 / 1)
It was after the 2002 election and my friend Henry Cuellar had lost to Bonilla by 5%(it was moral victory) and several months later Tom Delay and the Texas senate started talk of redrawing the congressional lines...I was on a telecon with Henry about going after Bonilla again and ways to keep him in the public eye..I was aked  to hold on cuzz he had an incoming call from Austin(FROM PEOPLE INVOLVED IN REDRAWING THE LINES)...I remember my friend Henry saying " I have 1 shot at a district..go ahead and split Webb County"...the  conversation then shifted to wether or not I knew of Bexar County voting patterns and I responded by saying "yeah the south side never votes"...Well  thats when I realized that Henry was going after Ciro...months later when the deadline was looming for filing and all the political pundits had Cuellar against Bonilla..I had prepared and sent Henry an email  stating "let me know when you  need vote scenarios when you go against Ciro"...to which I got no reply...which is to those who know Henry a sign of acknowledgement and  sign of getting caught with his hands in cookie jar...I DIDNT ASK AGAIN...which is what one does with my friend Henry...in the Fall of that year is when BOR reported the same thing...more later..but like  my dad always said "just wait hijo all things work out"

There is more detail but you can read between the lines..Just ask me about the sex..drugs and desparate wives...
