DCCC Begins Airing Ads for Ciro in TX-23

by: Karl-Thomas Musselman

Wed Nov 29, 2006 at 06:07 PM CST

The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) began airing the following television ad in two markets in the runoff election set for December 12th between Ciro Rodriguez and Henry Bonilla. Watch it here or below.

I'd take that as a sign that the DCCC poll came back fairly positive if they are going to invest in this manner. They have already committed their national field director Adrian Saenz, internet/fundraising staff in Meghan Gaffney, and campaign spokesperson Vanessa Gonzalez.

Also today, John Courage sent an e-mail out to his campaign list asking people to help call voters using ciro.onlinephonebanking.com and donate to Ciro's campaign. In the past few hours he's raised over $1200.

Spanish Version? (5.00 / 2)
Please say that they have a Spanish version of this ad too.  After all, this is district is over 2/3rds Latino.  Also they should do something with this video.  While they are at it, create an ad that morphs Bonilla's face into Tom DeLay's face, and talk about how Bonilla subsidized DeLay's legal defense team with money meant for Latino candidates.

Henry Bonilla + Alliant Techsystems Inc. Relationship

The Facts:
In early 2002, Bonilla bought through his spouse, tens of thousands of dollars in stock in defense contractor Alliant Techsystems Inc.

Later In 2002, the House Appropriations Committee designated and Congress voted authorizing $1.25 billion dollars for Alliant Techsytems, Inc. to provide Army munitions, $94 million more than the Department of Defense requested.

That same year, the Alliant Techsystems, Inc. Employees Political Action Committee (PAC) contributed $1,000 to Bonilla’s congressional campaign, in addition to the $500 he received in 2001.

With his vote in 2002 as a congressman and as a member of the Appropriations Committee, Bonilla boosted the value of his own stock in Alliant Techsystems, Inc., a company that is receiving more defense appropriations as the war in Iraq continues, meaning higher stock values and more money for campaign contributions.

This conflict of interest is highly unethical for a public official. Bonilla used his position as a congressman to boost his family personal finances and his campaign.
