Second, I don't think ANYONE thought Bell would go TOTALLY dark, but how many points are bahind this ad from Monday Oct 30th through today? Today through Monday, Nov 6? I think what the old bag (one crazy indecisive senile four-named Eharmony ad concept stealing grandma) and the a**hole (Good hair, bad gov) meant was they're prolly buying 2k points over all of week 1 and the day before election, while Bell is prolly buying 500...
With all that being said, this election isn't about points and ad buys. It's about getting out Democrats to vote for a Democrat. Period. End of story. Let the other chips fall where they may, we just need every single Kerry voter in this state to turnout. If that happens, and they vote D, we walk to victory.
Here is what the Houston Chronicle reported, notice Bell's buy barely registers on an expensive market like Houston:
Houston Chronicle reporter Terri Langford's take on how the candidates are buying television for their commericals was in today's paper, but not all the purchase totals made it.
All that trial lawyer O'Quinn did was help Perry by propping up Bell a little.
JOIN THIS DEMOCRAT AND VOTE INDEPENDENT. AT LEAST STRAYHORN HAS A CHANCE, AND FRIEDMAN IS A BETTER MAN THAN BELL ANY DAY.
So here's the breakdown for ad buys on Houston television.
Gov. Rick Perry, Republican: $294,120 Carole Keeton Strayhorn, independent: $348,725 Kinky Friedman, independent: $141,110 Chris Bell, Democrat: $26,880
Oct. 27 to Nov. 7 -- as of purchases made by Nov. 1. Additional purchases are possible.
If Chris Bell bought higher in other markets as compared to Houston, maybe he knows something?
Maybe he draws some conclusions from this:
HIGH VS. LOW TURNOUT COUNTIES (Percentage of votes cast early):
12.84% - Williamson 12.72% - Nueces 11.86 - Travis 11.06% - Bexar _6.80% - Harris
If I had a limited budget, I wonder where I'd focus?
Check with Kinky's campaign before you deny this because the station had previously said there was no more ad time available but then called back to offer the newly available ad time and this is the explanation they offered for the change in circumstances.
Call Kinky's campaign if you think the station was lying.
Kinky can't win because most people don't take him seriously or consider him to be a serious candidate.
The independents weren't doomed because they were independents, but because neither were great candidates.
The worst dirt the GOP attack machine can come up with on Bell is to attack his contributor and use the "big Washington liberal label." Kind of shows how good of a man Bell must be, doesn't it? "I love America more than any other country in this world, and, exactly for this reason, I insist on the right to criticize her perpetually."- James A. Baldwin
AND, if Chris Bells internal polls are so good, like he's been bragging, why is he hiding them? Just another Big Bell Lie.

Ann Garcia said... Well, we've begun the last week of the campaign, and I've seen two Bell TV spots already today. Is that Sal guy going to retract his crazy nonsense? I was torn between Bell and Strayhorn, but I voted over lunch for Bell, and I have to admit that this Sal Costello guy helped push me over the edge.

Jimmy Corn said... Anonymous with questions for Sal: You probably didn't realize this, but Sal did answer your questions, but you need to translate those answers. I'll help translate. QUESTION 1 - "First, how much has Strayhorn's campaign paid the groups you are affiliated with?" UNTRANSLATED ANSWER - "Our Report is filed with the Texas Ethics Commission." TRANSLATED ANSWER - Strayhorn does pay for the groups I am affiliated with, but I am embarassed to give you an exact figure, which you could look up if I gave you the proper names of those groups so I will not be doing that. QUESTION 2 - "Second, will you follow the Texas Federation of Teachers example and start quietly telling your people that they should vote their conscience and not based on the early, improvident endorsement (or are your giving up on fighting against toll roads in favor of fighting for your sponsor's increasingly unlikely election bid)?" UNTRANSLATED ANSWER - "We don't have ANY issue with traditional toll roads. We oppose tolls on roads we've already paid for." TRANSLATED ANSWER - Any honest answer to that question would reflect poorly on me and my sponsor so instead of answering it I will just say something that is unrelated to your question. QUESTION 3 - "Finally, when you endorsed Strayhorn, where you aware she had said 'Building highways through toll financing rather than pay-as-you-go financing dramatically speeds the time it takes to complete a given project'?" UNTRANSLATED ANSWER - "How we remove Freeway Tollers." TRANSLATED ANSWER - Again, any answer to this question would inevitably reflect poorly on my sponsor so I'll just direct you to one of my websites if you don't mind. For more information, here's a link to Carole 4-Names/3-Parties signing Sal like he was a big check. Also, see how much it costs to have someone "design postcards."

Sal, How can Strayhorn expect to pick up any significant number of Democrat votes in light of these facts: In 1985, she said "I have been a lifelong Democrat, but I'm going to spend the rest of my life vigorously and wholeheartedly in the GOP." Now she says, "I am a Republican. But I know I must set partisan politics aside and do what's right for Texas. That is why I am running for governor as an independent." In 1985, "She refused to discuss her position on abortion" according to the Austin American-Statesman. But in the 1990s she signed pledges for the Republican National Coalition for Life to oppose abortion and told Greater Austin Right to Life that she supported overturning the Supreme Court decision allowing abortions. Now, when the Dallas Morning News asked if Roe vs. Wade should be overturned, Strayhorn would only say "I believe in the sanctity of life." When the Dallas Morning News asked if pharmacists be should allowed to refuse to dispense the "morning-after" pill, Strayhorn refused to answer. In 1998, Strayhorn won election as comptroller with the help of a $950,000 loan from voucher advocate James Leininger, and back then Strayhorn said she supported vouchers as a means of giving parents a choice when their children were trapped in failing schools. Also, back in 1998, Strayhorn endorsed grade advancement based on testing. Even less than a year ago, Strayhorn confirmed "When I've talked about vouchers; philosophically I wouldn't have a problem with that for disadvantaged kids." In 2000, Strayhorn said, in a review of the Texas Department of Transportation recommended toll roads, "Building highways through toll financing rather than pay-as-you-go financing dramatically speeds the time it takes to complete a given project." In 2001, as a member of the Legislative Redistricting Board, Strayhorn cast the deciding vote to gerrymander Texas House districts pursuant to then-U.S. House Majority Leader Tom DeLay's highly partisan plan which was found to have violated the Voting Rights Act. In 2003, Strayhorn called for college tuition deregulation, and that has been a disaster. In 2003, Strayhorn also called for cutting CHIP by requiring registration every six instead of 12 months. Even in Strayhorn's recent "Select Proposals from Challenging the Status Quo," she has proposed that the Texas General Land Office should be "required to target at least 5 percent of all underused lands for sale each year" and argued that the "Texas Natural Resource Conservation Commission should aggressively market its Regulatory Flexibility Program to reduce onerous restrictions on businesses" as part of her plan to back less aggressive methods of "enforcing environmental laws." You have your own reasons for advocating in favor of Strayhorn, and in these tough economic times I understand that motivation and I don't fault you for it, but Strayhorn has little appeal to progressive voters.

I usually don't care to take the time to respond to people that fail to use their actual name. But, I'll make this exception.
1) Our Report is filed with the Texas Ethics Commission.
2) We don't have ANY issue with traditional toll roads. We oppose tolls on roads we've already paid for (and giving private land for foreign profits). LEARN THE DIFFERENCE HERE: http://salcostello.b...
2) Over the past 2 years, Strayhorn has been the only statewide candidate fighting to stop tolls on roads we've already paid for and the mass eviction producing TTC. Strayhorn has NEVER supported these schemes. This is why we endorsed her: http://salcostello.b...
3) How we remove Freeway Tollers: http://salcostello.b...
I missed where you answered those questions.
Also, what IS the deal with $1000 for designing postcards?
BYE, BYE BELL...
But we know is that Strayhorn's campaign is so desperate that it LIED about Bell going dark and that people around Texas are seeing Bell's excellent ads and they are voting.
Also, we know that there is high early voting turnout in areas of the state that have traditionally voted the Democratic straight-party ticket in large percentages.
We know that Strayhorn is in third place even in her own sponsored polls, and Kinky has been on national television conceding that he cannot win.
Voting for Bell is the only path toward beating Perry -- you're either on that path or not.
I'll say this though for people looking for a little more depth. Check out his his appearance on Texas Monthly Talks.
And this interview had escaped me until recently. Very well done.
Keep the faith. We're almost there.
Go Kinky!
Interestingly, the demographic Bell did best in was "no college".
Not looking good for Bell. What happened to the $5 millon coming from O'Quinn?
Anyway, here is the survey details: http://www.surveyusa...
