Martha Wong's Continuing Signage Issues

by: Ryan Goodland

Tue Oct 03, 2006 at 01:30 PM CDT

As we've reported recently, Martha Wong has gotten into a bit of trouble lately covering up the word "Republican" on her yard signs with a piece of red tape. Wong had this to say last week when asked why she was taping up her signs:

"We use one campaign sign when we're running in the primary, and we use another sign when we're running in the general," said Wong. "It's that simple."

The following photo was taken last Thursday of Martha Wong's campaign headquarters:

I can't think of any primaries Martha Wong is running for right now, can you?

On the Web: Ellen Cohen for State Representative.

She's an embarrassment (0.00 / 0)
My favorite Martha Wong story:

Last year, I had the distinct pleasure of sitting in on the Texas Public Policy Foundation meeting (far-right think tank that tries to pass itself off as "mainstream"). One of the featured speakers there was James Leininger, who gave a schpeal about why vouchers are good and whatever.

There were literally dozens of Republican House members in attendance, many of whom receive donations and even bank their entire campaigns on Leininger paychecks. But when Leininger started talking about how vouchers can "save children from the wretched public safety conditions of our schools," I couldn't help but notice that a lot of members either didn't clap at that portion, rolled their eyes back towards their lunch plates, or proceeded to practice their whistling.

Not Martha Wong, though. I wish I had a video camera. She stood up -- a standing ovation -- for his remarks. Her table awkwardly applauded to follow her, but no one else in the room stood up for those comments (or any others) for the entire panel.

Seriously -- Ellen Cohen for State Representative.

Now, a very great man once said that some people rob you with a fountain pen.

Is Wong-O anything like Wham-O?  Maybe.  Both generate useless products.

i don't see why this is (0.00 / 0)
such a big deal..You'd be hard pressed to find Chuck Hopson's party affiliation on his web site. It's a common campaign tactic. If anything, Wong made a mistake by using tape and not shelling out more money to print new signs without the R.

Surely it's not worthy of the name "Sign-gate", as it's been called on this site...I think "-gate" suffix should be reserved for things of a more serious nature, like, say, covering up a Congressional page sex scandal.

Eitherway, there are a whole lot more lousy things Wong has done in the legislature that would make more sense to hit her on than what her signs look like.

Its not a huge deal, BUT... (0.00 / 0)
I think she is clearly being caught in running away from her party in public or lying...

They say that they were running out of signs and that they decided to use old primary signs...  as if that makes a ton of sense...  Charles Kuffner posed a solution:

I am assuming that you do not live in Martha's district 134.?  If you do, then I would also assume you know that she has won her first two races simply by identifying herself as the Republican candidate (and still falling behind the statewide and district % of the vote obtained by the "average" Republican).
Martha is trying to run as far away as she can from "Republican" in this election cycle. That is what Ryan is portraying in his "Martha Sign-gate" stories.  She (Martha) is seeing that simply being a Republican is not gonna get her there as it has in the past (in fact, it more than likely will keep her from getting there!).

I happen to live in this district 134, and have for all three of these W(r)ong election cycles!  She not only does not have the support she has enjoyed in the past (by simply being the Republican candidate), but in fact has a lot more opposition to her candidacy, both because of her crappy legislative voting record and the fact that (this year) she "is" the Republican
incumbent.

Am I correct.... (0.00 / 0)
In assuming that Martha Wong's campaign headquarters is inside an abandoned CHICO's clothing store??

I am almost always able to recognize typefaces and logos used by major corporations (it's a curse), and that sure looks like a CHICO's sign....

Hey if I were a Republican (0.00 / 0)
I sure as hell wouldn't be telling anybody either.

They're in the middle of the worst shitstorm since Watergate with no letup in sight.

(Poor them.)

PDiddie,

Please don't give them (the Republicans) too much solace or compassion (after all, Martha still has Beverly Kaufmann and those e-Slate machines on her side)!

Vote by mail (paper) if there is any legal means possible for you to do so!
