Now that former San Antonio Mayor Julian Castro is the new Secretary of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, he’s taking D.C. social media by storm.

It helps that he’s funny and gregarious, and has an adorable family to boot.

Check out some of the best tweets about Secretary Castro y familia this week.

The Texas Tribune TribWire tweeted a link to an op-ed stating that Castro will be the first Hispanic President. He’s clearly got the arms for it:

Joe Biden meets the Secretary’s daughter Carina, extending her 15 minutes of fame from Castro’s DNC speech:

He visited Utah and met some kids, while also visiting a new housing development for refugees and low-income individuals:

He promoted solar panels and renewable energy in housing projects:

He also avoided the political pitfalls of pictures in funny headgear, eschewing a hard hat for this photo:

Finally, he met with the German Federal Minister for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Building and Nuclear Safety, Barbara Hendricks:

All in all, Castro’s new position in D.C. is elevating his national profile and enabling him to advance housing policies that fight discrimination and promote sustainability. It’s great to see him gain this experience, because like many Texans I hope to see him on the ballot again soon.
