It's Friday! Time for your Burnt Orange Reporters to close some browser tabs and touch on the issues of the week.

First up this week, the great Bacon-Kale map, showing, via Twitter data, which states show stronger affinity for bacon vs. kale. Texas registers a weak bacon preference.

Speaking of white people — study shows three quarters of white Americans don't have any non-white friends.

Have you ever wondered how our great state matches up to others across the country when it comes to sweets? Slate has you covered with the United Sweets of America an interactive map of the most favorite sweets from every state. Don't worry – Texas easily won the title of the pecan pie state. As the official inheritor of the pecan pie recipe for the Cato family, I say this is well-deserved.

If Jester King wasn't your favorite Texas brewery before, it should be now. In September, they're releasing ??, a wild beer refermented with hill country peaches. The name and label imagery is inspired by Chinese folklore celebrating gay relationships, intimacy, and hardship. ??, meaning “the shared peach,” is a nod toward homosexuality. Yay gay peach beer! Buy some for me.

In Arizona, a Democratic congressional candidate responded to a pro-life survey with a box of condoms printed with “Prevent Abortion” on the wrapper. James Woods also included a letter detailing the kinds of policies that would actually help decrease the rate of abortions, like comprehensive sex education, and making methods of birth control (perhaps those awesome condoms?) more widely available to all. Talk about awesome campaign swag! Can someone send a box of those to BOR?

The German Beer Federation representing more than 1,300 brewers is taking on fracking because it is concerned that the practice could hurt their industry by literally “poison[ing]the well.” One brewer said, “Beer is a craft that we Germans have learned well, but it relies on nature to provide the products. Hops, barley malt, yeast and, most important of all, water. Poison the well and you poison the product. Our beer is part of our life, our national soul.”
