This month has been great for Leticia Van de Putte, the Democratic candidate for Lieutenant Governor. She started the month off by beating her opponent, Republican Dan Patrick, to two endorsements from public safety organizations.
The two endorsements make a clear statement about Van de Putte’s strong legislative commitment to such important public safety issues as human trafficking, and her ability to effectively lead the State Senate as they consider legislative policies with a direct impact on the safety of our communities and our state.
The San Antonio Police Officers Association endorsed Van de Putte on August 1st, and their endorsement was quickly followed by the Deputy Sheriff’s Association of Bexar County.
After receiving the San Antonio Police Officers Association’s endorsement, Van de Putte noted the importance of this endorsement and recognized their service. “These men and women work tirelessly to keep our communities safe and secure,” Van de Putte said in a Facebook post, “and it is a great privilege to be their ally.”
In a statement, the Deputy Sheriff’s Association of Bexar County’s President Joel Janssen said,
The Deputy Sheriff’s Association of Bexar County has chosen to endorse Senator Leticia Van de Putte’s campaign to become our next Lieutenant Governor.Senator Van De Putte has an impeccable track record in supporting public safety initiatives in the State Capitol during the Legislative sessions. Senator Van De Putte’s actions solidify her devotion and dedication to the men and women who protect their communities.
It is leadership like this that is needed in our State Capitol. We are confident that she will continue to provide the same commitment to public safety as our Lieutenant Governor.
While Van de Putte’s service to her community is reflected in their strong endorsements of her commitment to public safety, Dan Patrick’s home turf of Harris County hasn’t been so supportive: the Harris County Sheriff, Adrian Garcia, has also endorsed Van de Putte.
