OU Busted!

by: Ian

Wed Aug 02, 2006 at 04:16 PM CDT

(Oh my, you just have to smile. - promoted by Karl-Thomas Musselman)

This news is too good to be true.  Turns out that the only way OU can compete with our national champion Texas Longhorns is to cheat.  Read all about it at ESPN

Those Texas traitors, Rhett Bomar and Adrian Peterson, who left the Lone Star state for OU get no sympathy from me when the NCAA hands out its punishment.

YouTube has some photos of Bomar getting his ass kicked.

This helps clear the way for UT to repeat at national champions, and this spells long term trouble for OU.  What 5-star blue chip recruit would want to go to an OU program on probation?

And the best part?  Bob Stoops has been hanging out with James Dobson.  He's been acting like a sanctimonious religious right nut, and now his program got caught red-handed.  I'm sure James Dobson will blame this scandal on gay marriage.

Yes, but is it news that OU cheats?

Not to me.  Not to me.

Christian Liberal is NOT an oxymoron.

I'm perfectly happy to gloat, but (0.00 / 0)
national champions? That's a bit of a stretch. Don't get me wrong; back-to-back titles would put a sh**-eating grin on my face for quite some time, but a lot of things are going to have to fall into place perfectly for that to happen.
Plus, they're not likely to get serious sanctions since they policed themselves.

But as to the rest of it, yeah -- heh, heh, heh

Texas football is back (5.00 / 1)
davew,

Before Vince's Rose Bowl turned the football world upside down, I might have agreed with your somewhat pessimistic attitude.

But we're the national champions now.

Everything has changed.  Yes, "a lot of things are going to have to fall into place perfectly for that to happen."  But the pundits said that same shit last year.  It's only August.  Let's give ourselves the luxury of hope.

As a native Austinite, I felt like I was the southern version of a BoSox fan.  But then the BoSox won the World Series in 2004.  And then the 'Horns won the greatest game in all of college sports in 2005.

I was in the airport the next morning after the Rose Bowl, and the most random people were coming up to me an complimenting on the greatest game they had ever seen.  Janitors.  Rental car attendants.  Airline front desk clerks.  It was awesome!  Of course, I had nothing to do with the Rose Bowl victory...but I still took credit.  I bleed orange, and I'm not afraid to say it.

We're the fucking champs!

Let's not forget that.  It's not a stretch to say that we'll repeat when every national magazine is putting us in the pre-season Top 5.  Now that OU is off  track, we have A VERY REASONABLE CHANCE TO WIN IT ALL AGAIN.

C'mon folks.  We've suffered for over 30 years before we won the national championship.  Let's enjoy it.

Let's look at this with a glass half full attitude.  If we lose to Tech, then I'll bitch.  But I'm predicting we'll be in a BCS bowl, and don't be suprised if our entire Longhorn network is so strong that we can win the national championship even though we have a quarterback who's never taken a snap.

You may be right that OU won't get serious sanctions because they policed themselves.  But let's not water down what OU has done.  They broke every rule in the book.  They paid their players.  They cheated.  If the NCAA doesn't come down hard on this bullshit, then so be it.  We'll win anyway.  We're Texas.

But it sure is a good day in Longhorn Nation when our chief rival goes down in flames because they felt the need to cheat to beat us.

not pessimistic (0.00 / 0)
Look, I've been a passionate Longhorn fan longer than most of the people who read this blog have been alive. I'm a native Texan. I'm a UT grad. I remember when Darrell Royal introduced the wishbone, for God's sake. I know all too well we've suffered for over 30 years, so back the hell off. I know we're the fucking champs; it was the greatest game I've ever seen, too. I'm enjoying the shit out of this, at least as much as you.

I'm just being realistic. Yes, OU is off the track. That means barring catasrophe, we'll win the Big 12, so yeah, we'll be in a BCS bowl. Plus, I'm not saying a national championship is out of the question, just that it's going to be really difficult, a lot more difficult than last year, where we started the season ranked number 2. Top 5? Which magazines are you reading? Most the ones I've read (and that's quite a few) have us around 6 or 7. We're going to have to pass a lot of teams to get there, and that's the hardest thing to do. Once the sportswriter-pollsters make up their minds about numbers 1 and 2, it's awful hard to dislodge them unless one of them loses.

I'm glad you bleed orange (0.00 / 0)
And I'm glad you're being realistic.  We can't win the national championship every year.

But we can hope.  That's why August is fun.  Every team has a chance.  And especially this year, we should walk around with a little swagger.  For too long, Texas fans have been negative.  I've been going to games all my life, and if there's one consistent thing, it's the ability of Longhorn fans to be pessimistic.  I've been proudly predicting a national championship ever since Mack took over, and now it's a reality.  We've finally earned the right to talk some shit.  Let's enjoy it.

If Texas beats OSU and OU, and wins the Big 12 undefeated, then the BCS voters have to let the defending national champions into the big dance.  I hate the BCS, and I'm ready for the playoffs.  But it would be unconstitutional for the BCS voters not to give us the chance to defend our title.  It doesn't matter how many teams we have to leapfrog from the preseason rankings.  I have full confidence in the Burnt Orange Nation's ability to mobolize grassroots support across the country to get Texas in the Fiesta Bowl.

Admittingly, I'm over-excited about the 'Horns right now because I got to see Mack Brown in person yesterday for the "Texas Monthly Talks" series.  Mack is the man.  It's abundantly clear to me that Texas will dominate college football as long as Mack is around.  If I were a blue chip recruit, I'd want to play for Mack.  He's the ultimate politician.  He answers every question with the right amount of humilty and humor.  He talks about the importance of taking care of high school coaches.  He talks about how he doesn't sign a kid until he meets their mom and dad.  He got into coaching because he loves helping kids achieve their dreams.  He didn't take credit for the national championship and instead praised the whole Longhorn family.  And he even showed class by not taking the bait when Evan Smith started off the interview with a question about OU and Rhett Bomar.  I've been jumping up and down for the last 24 hours because OU has been caught for being the Barry Switzer cheaters that they are, but Mack managed to keep his composure and not take a cheap shot.  It just goes to show that Mack handles himself in a genuine manner, and obviously our Texas players respond to that positive attitude.

You're right that we're starting off this year ranked #6 or #7 in preseason.  But that's essentially Top 5.  So, we're in the hunt.  If I may, let me error on the side of optimism and be the first to proudly predict that UT will repeat as national champions.  The national pundits have no idea how deep our team is.  The next 10 years will truly be the golden era of Longhorn football.  And if we can convince Major Applewhite to come back and take over once Mack retires, we could be looking at a generation of Texas dominance.

Hook 'em!

We're saying the same thing here... (5.00 / 1)
I take a back seat to no one in the  swaggering and talking shit department. I've been pissing people off about it. Plus, nobody hates the BCS more than me, and one of its major faults is that it doesn't give a good goddamn who the defending champion is.

Mack is the man. I especially liked his "Don't let this be the highlight of your life" speech before the Rose Bowl. You're right; everybody should want to play for this man. If I had sons, I'd want them to play for him. I said all along, and called it in to the radio talk shows, that those lousy frontrunning fans that wanted to fire him should shut the hell up.

We're back where we belong, consistently in the national title hunt. You were sounding like it was a lock is all I'm saying. I'm not one of those pessimistic fans; I'm excited as hell, especially about the second week in October. I'm ready to start a little 5 years in a row payback to those arrogant bastards from Norman. Nobody is hoping for back to back more than I am. Hope has been springing eternal in this human breast for many, many Augusts now.

Nobody, and I mean nobody, hopes you're right more than me. I want my friends and family to find me unbelievably insufferable next January. Then we'll be talking three-peat, and you'll be having to calm me down, because we'll have an experienced QB and a shitload of returning starters on both sides of the ball.

The Coaches Poll has us at #2. :)

I just saw that. To tell the truth, it surprised the hell out of me; brought a grin to my lips, but certainly surprised me. The only bad part is that it doesn't allow for any sneaking up when no one's looking stuff. ;)

True (0.00 / 0)
But it's all on the Ohio State game, anyway. And I think we'll win -- because if we have a quarterback who is already saving lives, I've got to believe we can win.

Oh yeah and there's no free cars and the like in any of Mack Brown's programs? Riiiiiight. LOL.

There were way too many black Isuzu Rodeos of the same year and model being driven by UNC football players in the late 90s. Wonder where they got those without having a job? :)

Quick summary of BOR sports blogging (3.00 / 1)
"Last time I checked we talked about politics here."

Instead of responding with 3rd grade name-calling, I've provided you with a quick list of some BOR sports posts.  I'd keep researching more info for you, but I've already delayed my First Thursday booze plans long enough.

Indeed, these are good days to bleed orange.  I hope that the BurntOrangeReport continues to comment on sports in general and UT football in particular.

Respectfully yours,
Weenie Boy

A Sad Day... (0.00 / 0)
This is a sad day for America.  Bob Stoops did the right thing and got rid of two kids who broke the rules, even though it cost him a National Championship!  He should be commended, even if he does like James Dobson.  In fact, I respect the hell out of him as a person, he is a man of great Christian values and moral character, a great contrast to previous OU coaches.  Now I'm going to have to endure you all making fun of OU for another season!!!

On a serious note, can we make it a Capital Offense to mess with OU football like this?  Gives a whole new meaning to the NCAA's "death penalty", heh?

Yes, you'll have to endure this for another season (5.00 / 1)
and that's why college football is fun.

There's few things I enjoy more than talking smack in Dallas to OU fans.  Nothing personal, just pure loyalty to my 'Horns.  In this spirit, I'll do my best to share with you as many of these photo-shopped images as I can find.

It's hard to talk too much trash about A&M because we all have cousins and friends who made the wrong choice.  But it's pretty easy to make fun of OU.

I certainly admire you courage in sticking up for your team here in Austin.  I hope you do some trashing talking in early October, and I'll be more than happy to respond in-kind.  I can't wait for Oct. 7th!

Here's to hoping for another five...  I don't know what to think this year, OU just got devestated, but yet UT is obviously still a very mediocre team after the Crown Prince left.
