A newly elected Tea Party trustee at Keller ISD apologized for calling it a “shame” that Southlake elected a Muslim member to its City Council.

Jo Lynn Haussmann posted on Facebook: “SOUTH LAKE – Do you realize because SO FEW voters took the time and responsibility to VOTE in the municipal elections – YOU NOW HAVE A 'MUSLIM' on the City Council!!! What A SHAME!!!!!”

Haussmann who herself only got 50.5% of the vote was endorsed by the right wing group Texans for Fiscal Responsibility who said, “She is well respected by state legislators and other local leaders.”

That list of legislators include Giovanni Capriglione, who gave himself some credit for recruiting her also said that the, “opposition ranges from someone who isn't even registered to vote, to a progressive liberal whose public comments are too deranged to even post.” Yep. take a moment to let that sink in.

Now see who else endorsed Haussmann and what the School Board has to say below the jump…Other Texas legislators that have endorsed Haussmann include Jonathan Stickland, Matt Krause and Stephanie Klick. On her rally.org fundraising page she said Reps, “Giovanne Capriglione, Matt Krause & Stephanie Klick have offered to match ALL donations up to & including $1,500!  Who will be next?” Umm, hopefully no one?

The Keller ISD responded to her comments by releasing a statement:

The Keller ISD Board of Trustees is disheartened and highly offended with the recent comments made by newly elected Trustee Jo Lynn Haussmann.  The Trustees feel strongly that KISD is a district that cannot tolerate any form of hatred, bigotry or intolerance.  The officers will be calling a special meeting in the coming days to address this issue.  “We want our community to know that this behavior by a board member is unacceptable, and that it will be addressed,” said Board President Jim Stitt.  “As leaders of this district, we expect board members to promote respect and care for all members of our community.

The Council on American-Islamic Relations has now called for her resignation:

“The Keller community deserves a trustee that is committed to diversity and sound judgment regardless of race, religion, or national origin,” stated Alia Salem, Executive Director of CAIR-NTX. “An apology in this case is insufficient. These comments are not the first of its kind from Mrs. Haussmann, as she has made similar negative comments in the past regarding Islam and Muslims. This indicates a deeply held belief that cannot be washed away with a mere apology. We hope that other trustees and local leaders will work with the community on this issue by taking a zero-tolerance policy on racist and discriminatory statements”

A Facebook group page entitled “Jo Lynn Haussmann Must Go! (Keller ISD)” has also been started with the expressed mission to oust Haussmann from the school board. It chronicles memes, endorsements and screenshots that capture the consistently outrageous and discriminatory comments made by Haussmann.

Bud Kennedy a reporter for the Fort Worth Star Telegram tweeted a screenshot of comments Haussmann made on a 2012 Youtube video where she asked why Obama, who she claims is a Muslim, hasn't been decapitated for some of his policy positions. She also said she'd rather have a “Mormon with high morals than a Muslim.”

Back in May she reblogged a post on her wordpress page exclaiming voters to vote against the school bond, the blog post opened with,

I'm against the socialistic funding of education and I think anything and everything that can be done to get EVERY level of government intrusion in education out should be done so with all the speed that we can muster.

And yes, now this person sits on the school board of a public school system and her greatest concern seems to be the religion of a Southlake Council member.
