President Barack Obama Zings Ted Cruz, Rick Perry At White House Correspondents Dinner

by: Katherine Haenschen

Mon May 05, 2014 at 11:30 AM CDT

President Obama is a funny guy. At the annual White House Correspondents Dinner, he consistently delivers a funny, self-deprecating speech that also takes on his political opponents and draws a healthy mix of hearty guffaws and nervous laughter.

This year was no different, as President Obama landed plenty of zingers at the expense of the Texas Republicans in the room, Rick Perry and Ted Cruz.

While I'm still wondering which media organization lost a bet and had to sit with Rick Perry, at least President Obama used the opportunity to mock the proto-2016 presidential candidate, along with fellow Lone Star State Republican Ted Cruz.

Check out President Obama's zingers below the jump, and watch the full video of his speech if you haven't yet.

1. President Obama signs a bill with Ted Cruz

Referring to Cruz's statement that "hell would freeze over" before he worked with establishment politicians in Washington, President Obama presented a photo of a bill signing with him and Cruz:

No word if they celebrated afterwards at Tortilla Coast, Cruz's favorite Mexican restaurant.

2. Rick Perry names a high school after Barack Obama

The President noted that a Chicago high school was to be named after him, and that Rick Perry was also planning the same in Texas:

Now there's a team that I'd like to see pray on the field before their football games.

Regardless, it's still good to know that Texas Republicans remain the brunt of high-profile jokes on the national stage.
