Right Wing Tries to Distract From Greg Abbott's Non-Stance on Equal Pay As His Pay Raises Questions

Equal pay for Texans has surged to the forefront of the 2014 election, as Wendy Davis's campaign has hammered Greg Abbott on his refusal to state if he would veto an Equal Pay bill.

Now, right-wing media outlets are desperately flailing to distract from the issue, knowing how devastating it is to the Republican nominee, as Abbott's own pay increases raise more questions.

Since 2005, Abbott took two taxpayer-funded raises that increased his annual salary by nearly 62 percent. In 2005, he raised his salary from $92,000 to $125,000. In 2007, he accepted yet another pay raise to $150,000 a year.

Meanwhile, Greg Abbott has no stance on whether women should be paid the same as men for an equal day's work.

As part of the push on Equal Pay, Progress Texas started a petition showing support for Equal Pay and demanding Greg Abbott give a clear answer of his position on the issue. They used a photoshopped image of Abbott holding a piggy bank, seen below:

In response, the usual suspects at RedState and PJ Media clutched their pearls and fostered offense over the image, which shows Abbott from the waist up. They claimed that the image was offensive because Abbott is in a wheelchair and people in wheelchairs can't be depicted from the waist up, which seems like kind of a stretch.

It's clear that the right wing media is desperately trying to distract from this latest attack on Abbott, whether they're frothing over a fern video or yelling "Benghazi!" to anyone within earshot.

Meanwhile, Wendy Davis campaign communications director Zac Petkanas issued the following statement:

"After Greg Abbott alienated women voters by campaigning with an admitted sexual predator and taking a 62% pay raise while fighting against equal pay for women, it's no wonder DC Republicans are hitting the panic button in Texas.  However, they won't be able to cover up the clear choice voters have between Wendy Davis' commitment to economic fairness for all hardworking Texans and Greg Abbott's abysmal record for women."

Wendy Davis will sign Equal Pay legislation. Conversely, Greg Abbott defended the right of an employer to discriminate wages based on gender in a recent lawsuit. No wonder the right wing is trying to distract from the issue.
