President Obama Endorses Progressive Champion Marc Veasey in the Democratic Primary

by: Genevieve Cato

Congressman Marc Veasey has received plenty of endorsements, including ours, in his primary race. Now he can add an endorsement from the President of the United States to his list.

Veasey is a champion for progressive causes in Congress, and before serving at the federal level, he represented Texas House District 95 with integrity and his constituents' best interests at heart. He consistently proves his commitment to Democratic causes and is never afraid to stand up for his community. This is a well-deserved and exciting endorsement for the congressman.

More on the endorsement, and the full text from the President, below the jump.

President Obama released a statement endorsing Veasey in the primary and general election this year:

I'm proud to endorse Congressman Marc Veasey in his re-election bid. Marc is a champion for working and middle-class families in the Texas 33rd Congressional District and has quickly established himself as a leader in the fight to fix our broken immigration system. In Washington, Marc continues to aggressively defend voting rights, an issue he's fought for since his days in the Texas Legislature.

As we continue our efforts to move our country's economy forward, fight to raise the minimum wage, and pass common sense immigration reform, I know I'll be able to count on Congressman Marc Veasey. That's why I'm asking for you to vote for him in the March 4 primary election and again in the general election this November.

Veasey, who has taken the SNAP challenge and fought tirelessly against voter ID laws in Texas, continues to be the best candidate to represent Congressional District 33 and residents of Fort Worth.
